Kisawa Sanctuary, a luxury retreat on Benguerra Island

Kisawa Sanctuary is a luxury resort located on the southern tip of Benguerra Island, about 14 kilometres off the coast of Mozambique, in the Indian Ocean. The name "Kisawa" means "unbreakable" and, according to the company's own presentation, it defines its commitment to building a bond between people and place, life and land. The project is presented as a combination of nature, culture and service, with personalised and generous hospitality.

A 300-hectare sanctuary in the Bazaruto Archipelago

The property spans 300 hectares of forest, beach and dunes. Benguerra Island is part of the Bazaruto Archipelago, and the neighbouring national marine park is home, according to the company, to some of the richest and least explored subtropical ecosystems in the Indian Ocean. The location is presented as an oasis in the Indian Ocean, with access to marine and nature experiences.

Accommodation: private residences

The accommodation offering is arranged in residences of different sizes, each with its own private day area:

• One-Bedroom Residence with private day area.

• Three-Bedroom Residence with private pool.
• The Founder's Residence, with African art and antiques and panoramic views.

The site also mentions the exclusive-use option for the sanctuary, with benefits and reduced rates for groups booking the entire resort in certain months of 2026 and 2027.

Wellbeing and activities

The wellbeing programme includes sunrise yoga, meditation, sound healing and restorative rituals. The Natural Wellness Center is one of the standout facilities. The daily schedule shown on the site includes, among other activities, sunrise yoga, time on the main terrace, snorkelling, a late lunch in the residence, a sunset stroll and the Baracca bar in the evening. Whale-watching experiences are also offered between June and September.

The wellbeing team is led by Ayu Ari Suartini, originally from Bali, with training in anatomy and physiology, specialised massage modalities, holistic health, sound healing, detox treatments, aromatherapy and yoga teaching. Yoga master Ishant Malhotra leads the Ocean & Soul programme, a yoga and wellness journey available for stays of four or more nights.

Design and sustainability

Design has been a central pillar of the project. The company describes its approach as a combination of innovation and tradition, with inclusive design, collaboration with local artisans from Benguerra Island and patented 3D printing technology. According to its presentation, decisions have been made carefully to protect the environment and minimise the footprint on the natural landscape, with the intention of blending into the surroundings rather than interrupting them.

Team and management

The project was created by founder and creative director Nina Flohr. The property has a team of 196 people, of whom approximately 90% of the operational team come from Mozambique, while the rest bring experience from different parts of the world. General management is led by Nazik Amrani, from the United Arab Emirates, with a career in Morocco, the Seychelles and Abu Dhabi. Notable staff members include Luvia Massane, from the butler team; Floyd Jorge, in-house artist; Tomas George Zivane and Amelia Andre Zivane, responsible for gardening and the permaculture garden; Querino Huo, guest activity manager, and Alberto Saguate Gomacha, senior boat captain.

Offers and programmes from the catalogue

The site features various commercial offers, including a four-night stay for the price of three on selected dates in 2026 and 2027; a 20% discount for early bookings paid four months before travel; an additional complimentary night on five-night stays until 31 March 2028; a five-day wellbeing programme between 1 October and 18 December 2026; and a commemorative experience called Kisawa 5, from 1 September to 19 December 2026. There are also offers for solo travellers and for honeymoons.
