About Acre Resort

Acre Resort, luxury resort and restaurant in Ánimas Bajas, San José del Cabo

Acre Resort is a luxury resort located in the hills of Ánimas Bajas, in San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur. It occupies a 25-acre estate of desert terrain and palm trees, with its own organic farms that supply its restaurant. The project began as a small restaurant and bar and has grown into an evolving resort with accommodations, event spaces and an activities program.

Accommodation: treehouses, villas and haciendas

The most distinctive stay at the resort is the treehouses, elevated houses among the treetops, a short walk from Fausto's Coffee Shop and the main restaurant. They feature elevated views and breakfast served in a basket. For larger groups or longer stays, the resort offers 2- to 3-bedroom villas and 2- to 4-bedroom haciendas, conceived as self-contained indoor-outdoor retreats with a private pool, rooftop terrace, first-class furnishings and concierge service.

Dining: Acre Restaurant & Cocktail Bar

The resort's restaurant and cocktail bar, Acre Restaurant & Cocktail Bar, holds a Michelin Green Star and works with produce from the property's organic farm. The culinary offering is completed by Colibrí Cantina, Fausto's Coffee Shop, private dining service and the Rustico venue. The published hours for the restaurant are Monday to Friday, 4:30 PM to 10:00 PM.

Weddings and events

The resort presents itself as a destination for weddings and events. It has several venues, including lantern-lit orchards and agave-covered hills, and accommodates everything from intimate dinners for 12 to celebrations for 350 guests. The event planning team and culinary team handle the organization of each celebration, from formal ceremonies to poolside parties.

Experiences and activities

The resort describes its paths through forest and farmland as the backbone of life on the property, which can be explored on foot or by bike. The activities program includes art, sport, culture, cooking, wellness, music and movement, with examples such as painting or pickleball. Among the facilities is a secluded Jungle Pool, and the resort has Tranquilo Spa and a wellness program. Animal experiences, horseback riding, the Bichi Bus service and a boutique are also offered.

Animals and sustainability

The property is home to Acre Animal Rescue, an animal sanctuary that includes dogs, donkeys, peacocks, ducks, goats, pigs, chickens, horses, rabbits, a camel and cats, as well as the adoptable Acre Dogs. Living alongside these animals is part of daily life at the resort. The company states a sustainability philosophy applied to all its activities.

Origins and history

The project was launched by Canadians Cameron Watt and Stuart McPherson, who came to Los Cabos on vacation and decided to stay. They chose a plot in the foothills of San José del Cabo where palm trees grew naturally and developed it into a tourist destination. Over the years, wedding venues, treehouses, villas and haciendas were added, integrated into the jungle and desert hill surroundings. The resort also sells properties through Acre Real Estate.
