About Boca de Agua
Boca de Agua, a design-led eco-hotel on the Lagoon of Seven Colors
Boca de Agua is an eco-luxury retreat on the Lagoon of Seven Colors in Bacalar, Mexico. The project blends modern comfort, nature, and sustainability, and its architecture was designed by architect Frida Escobedo. The hotel presents itself as a quiet place, away from the crowds, in a setting of crystal-clear waters and jungle.
Villas and accommodation
The complex offers villas built around living trees, raised on stilts to respect water flows and allow vegetation to continue its course. The offering includes:
- Jungle Tree House: a 45 m² treehouse, designed for connection with nature and tranquility.
- Master Pool Tree House: the largest of the one-bedroom villas, at 75 m² with a private pool.
- Two-Bedroom Pool Villa: 90 m², two bedrooms, and a private pool, ideal for friends or families.
The design uses low-impact materials and cross-ventilation, in harmony with the jungle. Much of the furniture is made by local artisans using recycled materials from nearby industries, and includes exclusive pieces by Mexican creators.
Sustainability and conservation
Sustainability is a central pillar of the project. 90% of the land remains untouched, and the hotel works with local communities on mangrove reforestation to preserve the Bacalar ecosystem. It also practices syntropic agriculture, cultivates Kanché gardens with its own staff, and uses low-waste systems. The project seeks to foster social inclusion, local economic development, and natural conservation in the region.
Experiences
The hotel organizes activities such as paddleboarding or kayaking at sunrise and sunset, sailing across turquoise waters, jungle walks, birdwatching, cooking classes, and body and mind sessions. It also offers expeditions to rarely explored Mayan sites such as Ichkabal, Kohunlich, and Dzibanché, designed with archaeologists and guided with respect for the land.
Restaurant and bar
The hotel's restaurant and bar serves cuisine based on local ingredients, traditional techniques, and native flavors of southeastern Mexico. Vegan and vegetarian options are always available, and the space is open to both guests and outside visitors. Breakfast is served daily from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and is included depending on the rate booked; if not included, it can be added for 20 USD plus taxes per person.
