About Toyama Glass Studio
Toyama Glass Studio turns a tradition nurtured by the city for decades into a hands-on visit: here you can watch makers at work and shape an object of your own, not only admire finished pieces. Regular activities include glassblowing, paperweight making and other courses, with studio artists guiding each step. The city tourism association says workshops run on every day the facility is open, alongside seasonal programmes.
A glassblowing session generally takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the course; published prices start at ¥3,300 for glassblowing and ¥2,640 for a paperweight. Advance bookings receive priority, so do not count on finding a same-day place if your stay is short. Finished work is collected about a week later, an important detail for anyone leaving Toyama the next day. Public feedback appreciates the staff’s guidance and the chance to take part in the process; visitors also note that instructions can feel quick because hot glass has to be shaped promptly, and some pieces are collected later or shipped for an extra charge.
The studio is at 152 Furusawa, outside the immediate city centre. From Toyama Station, a bus towards Toyama University Hospital takes about 20 minutes to Family Park-mae, followed by a five-minute walk; the drive from Toyama West IC takes around five minutes. Free parking is available for 30 cars. The studio opens from 9 am to 5 pm and closes from 28 December to 4 January; the café on site has separate hours and a weekly closing day. The visit works best when you book the activity, confirm how your piece will be delivered, and leave enough time for the journey.
