About Miyakoh Botanic Garden Aoshima

A short walk from the sea, the botanical garden adds another landscape to an Aoshima visit: palms, warm-climate flowers and glasshouses with tropical fruit trees. Admission to the park and greenhouses is free, according to the prefectural tourism guide. The garden faces the island and works well as a break before or after crossing to Aoshima Shrine, particularly when the coastal sun is strong.

The garden opens at 8:30 am and the park is open year-round. The large greenhouse, tropical-fruit greenhouse and Palo Borracho Café each have different weekly closing days: Tuesday for the large greenhouse and café, Wednesday for the fruit greenhouse. The café lists smoothies, parfaits and juices made with mango and other Miyazaki fruit. That makes this more than a passing garden: visitors can walk, learn about the plants and sit down for a local produce-based treat.

Public comments often praise the well-kept planting, peaceful atmosphere and seasonal flowers; visitors expecting a very large botanical collection may find the grounds more compact than the name suggests. It works best as a companion to Aoshima rather than a stand-alone multi-hour excursion. Check which greenhouse is open on your chosen day, and plan the café separately because the café and glasshouses do not share the same weekly schedule.

The address is 2-12-1 Aoshima and the management phone is +81 985-65-1042. It is about a ten-minute walk from Aoshima Station; the Aoshima/Nichinan bus also stops at Aoshima within walking distance. There is no on-site car park, and nearby parking areas should be used. This is an easy, free stop to complete a coastal morning; the official guide also says four wheelchairs can be borrowed at no charge and an accessible toilet is located by the east side of the large greenhouse.
