About Keyakidaira Visitor Center
Keyakidaira Visitor Center turns the wait for a train into an opportunity to understand the landscape. Its panels, photographs and maps introduce the gorge’s plants, wildlife, scenery and routes, in a mountainous area where railway infrastructure meets difficult terrain. Public comments often find it useful as a visual introduction and as context for places that visitors cannot all reach on foot at present.
The centre matters even more during the 2026 reopening: trains again connect Unazuki and Keyakidaira, but the permitted walk is limited to the station and this centre while repairs and trail closures continue. The exhibits make a short stop worthwhile and explain areas that are currently inaccessible, but they are not a substitute for a mountain hike and do not mean the routes shown on maps are open. Visitors praise the maps and explanations; some also arrive expecting more walking than the current rules allow.
Access is by scenic train and depends on seasonal schedules, weather and official restrictions; there is no public road for a separate visit. Visitor comments describe admission as free, while the main cost is the railway ticket. Plan for roughly an hour at Keyakidaira and check operating conditions on the day. It is a useful addition for travellers drawn by the landscape, provided they have realistic expectations about the area currently open.
Exhibits on Kurobe Gorge nature and landscapes, within the currently permitted visitor area at Keyakidaira.
