About Goshonoyu Onsen
Goshonoyu is known for its wooden façade and an outdoor bath that opens onto a waterfall and greenery. It stands in the centre of Kinosaki Onsen, a Hyogo hot-spring town where visitors walk between public baths in yukata and geta. A soak fits into that wider ritual: stroll by the Otani River, enter a bathhouse, wash, bathe and return to the cool air of the resort streets.
Its defining feature is the open-air bathing area, with several levels and pools set among rock and flowing water. Ichinoyu offers a different mood with its cave-like bath, while Goshonoyu feels more connected to the surrounding landscape. Single entry is ¥800 for adults and ¥400 for children aged three through primary school. The city lists hours of 7 am to 11 pm, with last entry at 10:30 pm. Towels can be bought or rented, so bringing one avoids an unexpected extra.
Public feedback often praises the waterfall, timber architecture, outdoor pools and cleanliness. Visitors also say late afternoon can be busy, especially when ryokan guests arrive, and some are surprised by towel or ancillary charges. Early morning or later evening can offer a calmer visit. Bathing is nude in gender-separated areas; wash before entering and keep towels out of the water. These customs are part of the experience and help make a shared public bath comfortable for everyone.
The address is 448 Kinosakicho Yushima and the official phone number is +81 796-32-2230. It normally closes on Thursdays, except public holidays; special dates may differ. Visit Kinosaki lists a ¥1,500 Yumepa day pass for the public baths that are open. Do not assume all seven facilities are currently operating: some are closed for renovation. Choose Goshonoyu for outdoor pools and waterfall scenery; Ichinoyu is the more architectural, cave-like alternative.
Outdoor bath beside a waterfall; nude bathing in gender-separated areas.
