About Hakujukan

Hakujukan is designed for a stay a few minutes from Daihonzan Eiheiji, close to the monastery’s rhythm without lodging inside the temple itself. Its 18 rooms face the river or wooded surroundings; contemporary lines sit alongside materials and visual references rooted in local tradition. Its official hotel classification is four stars.

Restaurant Suisen serves shōjin cuisine, a Buddhist vegetarian meal that gives careful attention to ingredients, balance and presentation. Optional activities include meditation, sutra copying and sessions with the Zen Concierge. The temple’s morning service begins before dawn and must be requested from the concierge before the previous day’s check-in deadline.

Guest feedback often highlights the quiet setting, attentive team, bath and food as central to the stay; some travellers may find the plant-based cuisine unfamiliar or want more variety. This is more than a place to sleep: choose it if you want to join an activity and allow time for dinner and breakfast on site.

The hotel is about a seven-minute walk from the temple and five minutes from Eiheiji bus terminal. Direct buses from Fukui Station take roughly thirty minutes; check the timetable for your date. Check-in is at 2 pm and check-out at 10 am. If you hope to attend the dawn service, tell the team when you arrive the day before and bring warm clothing, as the hall can be chilly.

In brief
