About Parco Archeologico di Pompei

Entering Pompeii Archaeological Park means entering a city, not a room of antiquities. Its streets lead from the forum to houses, workshops, baths and the amphitheatre; which buildings can be entered changes with conservation work and daily opening. The layout invites you to imagine ordinary life before Vesuvius erupted in AD 79, but its size rules out seeing everything on a short stop. The park itself proposes a two-hour route from Porta Marina to Piazza Esedra. Choosing a route is more useful than racing after every mark on a map.

Google reviews gathered by Wanderlog praise the scale and preservation of streets and buildings. They also repeat three practical limits: crowds, sun and uneven paving. A guide can add context but is not required for entry. The aggregator labels the site “Free admission”, which does not describe the regular ticket: the park sells named tickets, limits daily numbers and distinguishes Pompei Express from Pompei+. Its “Pompeii for All” route covers more than 3.5 kilometres from Piazza Anfiteatro, although the operator warns of slopes and stone sections where assistance may be needed.

This listing uses Porta Marina, near Pompei Villa dei Misteri station, as its access reference; Piazza Esedra and Piazza Anfiteatro are other entrances. From 16 March to 14 October, the park lists opening from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with last entry at 5:30 p.m.; winter hours are shorter. Bring water, sun protection and shoes suited to old paving, and check which houses will be open. If you also want the Villa of the Mysteries, check whether you need Pompei+ or an add-on: the basic ticket does not cover every area.
