Gold & Crown

Gold & Crown: classic portraits from photographs

Gold & Crown is an online service that turns photographs provided by the customer into classically inspired portraits. The company describes its offering as the transformation of a photo into a masterpiece, with styles reminiscent of Renaissance, royal, and Baroque painting, and with the stated support of artificial intelligence. The catalogue is organised by subject type and by specific styles, and allows both digital download and canvas printing.

How the service works

The process begins with uploading one or more photographs. The company recommends a clear, well-lit image of each person or pet, taken face on with the face fully visible; it notes that a mobile phone photo is sufficient and warns that sending several angles of the same subject may generate an unwanted extra figure. Before buying, the user receives a watermarked preview, with no need to sign up or provide a credit card, and can request up to one hundred proofs. According to the published information, the preview is ready in about thirty seconds and the digital download is prepared at print size within a minute of payment confirmation.

Catalogue of styles and subjects

The offering is divided into subject categories: best sellers, women, men, pets, couples, families, and children. Within them, a wide variety of styles is displayed, including options such as Cherished, Cherished in Colour, Embraced, Cowboy, Pet Watercolor, Lavender Meadow, Old Master, Nestled, Amalfi Summer, Woman & Pet, Memorial Garden, Capo, Lawman, Fairytale Family, Ancient Roman Villa, Ice Kingdom, Viking Family, Pirate Captain, Royal Family, Memory Swing, Aviator, Spartans, Roaring Twenties, Egyptian Pharaoh, Tudor Court, Mid-Century Hollywood, Greek Mythology, Steampunk Atelier, Edo Court, Glam, Oil Icon, Highland Romance, Royal Couple, Viking Duo, Painterly Embrace, Knight Duo, Fairytale Duo, Couple & Pet, Sisters, Wine, Royal Pet Throne, Kids & Pet, Royal Multi-Pet, Man & Pet, Botanical Heirloom, Totally Eighties, Prom Night, Open Road, Gold Queen, Princess, Edwardian Lady, Belle Époque Queen, Pink Princess, Viking King, Warrior, Wine King, Emperor, Prince, Baby, Royal Kids, Fairytale Kids, Royal Baby, Regency Ball, and Apollo, among others.

Formats, finishes, and delivery

The service allows you to purchase either the digital file alone or a printed edition, which in most cases also includes the file. The company states that printed portraits are made to order and shipped with tracking, and that the arrival time varies by country and is shown at checkout. The canvases are presented as ready to hang and with free shipping. The company indicates that it uses techniques inspired by the masters of the Dutch Golden Age and that the printed result may differ slightly from the preview in fine details and edges, although the subject, style, and mood remain the same.

Prices, payments, and refund policy

The site shows an autumn promotion with discounts of up to 40% and free shipping. The prices of the different print sizes are presented in the user's currency once the free preview has been generated. The published refund policy states that everything before purchase is free, that the digital sale is final from the moment the file is delivered, and that a damaged or faulty canvas is replaced or refunded.
