MCD Garden Sheds: wooden garden sheds manufactured in Naul, Co. Dublin

MCD Garden Sheds is an Irish family business dedicated to the design, manufacture and installation of wooden garden buildings. The company presents itself as Ireland's largest manufacturer of wooden garden buildings and claims to have erected over 30,000 sheds and garden buildings in Ireland and the UK since 2010. Its headquarters, head office and factory are located in West Curragh, Naul, Co. Dublin.

Origins: from the Fingal allotments to its own factory

The company was born out of the family's involvement in managing urban allotments through Fingal Allotments. Upon finding that the sheds available on the market could not withstand Ireland's damp and windy climate, Gearóid, an engineer by profession, decided to build a shed for one of the tenants. That first commission gave rise to the current business, which still produces every unit to order at its own manufacturing facility.

Growth led to the arrival of Derek, Gearóid's brother, in 2017. That same year an opportunity opened up in Barnsley, South Yorkshire (England), which brought Martin and Emma Blacksell on board as representatives of the brand in the UK. The workforce grew from 17 employees across Ireland and the UK in 2019 to 52 in 2022. In 2021 the company became the official supplier of wooden garden sheds to Woodies DIY in Ireland.

Manufacturing method and guarantee

The company details the technical criteria it applies to its buildings: metal roof as standard, reinforced frame with supports at key points, breathable membrane on roof and walls, and pressure-treated Scandinavian timber in all components, including the tongue-and-groove floorboards. The pressure treatment protects the wood against rot and insects. Assembly uses hot-dipped galvanised nails, screws and hardware. The firm offers a 10-year guarantee on all timber.
