Local veterinary care in Terenure and Dundrum

The practice focuses on companion animal medicine and care. The team consists of veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and reception staff. Services highlighted on the clinic's website include registering new patients, requesting an appointment and renewing prescriptions without the need for an in-person visit. The clinic also maintains an emergency channel with separate phone numbers for each branch.

The veterinary team

The clinical team includes veterinary surgeons Mark Heffernan, Alyson, Adrienne and David. Mark Heffernan qualified in 1997 in Dublin and, after working in mixed practice and in UK hospitals — including the RSPCA hospital in Manchester and the PDSA hospital in East London — took over the running of the Terenure centre in 2006 and opened the Dundrum clinic in early 2011. Alyson graduated from UCD in 2007 and, after working in Wales, New Zealand, Australia and the UK, joined South Dublin Vets in 2013; her interest lies in small animal medicine. Adrienne, also a 1997 UCD graduate, worked in Sheffield and Naas before spending time in New Zealand and Kildare, and has been part of the team since 2007. David graduated from UCD in 2017, worked at a referral centre in the southwest of England and at a general practice in Sandymount, and joined the team in December 2020; his areas of interest are small animal surgery, diagnostic imaging and ultrasound.

Nursing and customer care

The nursing area includes Shauna, who qualified in Veterinary Nursing in 2021, and Jessica, a senior veterinary nurse who graduated from Dundalk Institute of Technology in 2017 and has a particular interest in surgical nursing and inpatient care. Theresa, originally from India and raised in Cork, is studying Veterinary Medicine at UCD and joined in October 2021. In reception and front-of-house work are Daniela, with seventeen years at the clinic and responsible for reception, food orders and kennels; Emily, with a level 5 certificate in Animal Care from DFEI and previous experience in a dog daycare; and Kate, from Cape Town, who has been Practice Manager since April 2022 and handles operations, finance and HR.

Two branches in South Dublin

The clinic is structured around two locations. Terenure Veterinary Hospital is the original centre, opened after Mark Heffernan joined in 2006, while Dundrum Veterinary Clinic opened in early 2011. Both branches share the same contact email address and have their own phone lines, as well as a dedicated emergency phone number at each one.
