About The Orchard

The Orchard, garden and home centre in Celbridge

The Orchard is a garden, home and outdoor living retail destination located in Celbridge, County Kildare (Ireland). It opened its doors in 1987 and since then has become, according to its own presentation, one of the country's leading retail destinations for home, lifestyle and outdoor living. It occupies a historic site: part of the former St. Wolstan's estate, where a five-acre Victorian walled orchard once operated, designed to supply fruit and vegetables to the estate's grand houses, with a heating system built into the brick walls to protect delicate crops from frost. Remnants of that installation still remain.

From abandoned orchard to retail centre

The business's history dates back to 1983, when founder and managing director Gerry Dooley, a horticulturist by trade, found the orchard overgrown and abandoned for years. Trading began in 1987 from a modest shop set up in an old tomato house. Growing customer numbers led to a major redevelopment begun in 2004, culminating in 2006 with the opening of a glass building inspired by Victorian glasshouses, with computer-controlled climate management, which houses the collection of homewares, lifestyle pieces and garden solutions. The company states it employs around seventy people.

Interiors, furniture and decoration

The interiors catalogue includes dining furniture (tables, chairs, bar stools, benches and sideboards), fabric and leather sofas, armchairs, living room storage, home office furniture, cushions, lighting, mirrors, baskets and trays, wall art and accessories. The company stocks brands such as Neptune and Flamant, with dedicated sections within the store, as well as tableware and kitchen names like Denby and Joseph Joseph.

Garden and outdoor living

The outdoor range covers garden dining sets, bistro, corner and lounge sets, benches, chairs, loungers, tables and storage solutions, as well as outdoor cushions and rugs, parasols and cantilevers, pergolas and gazebos, outdoor heating and lighting, bean bags, water fountains and covers and care products. It also sells planters and baskets, bird care products and spring bulbs.

BBQ, camping and cooking

The BBQ area includes charcoal, gas, electric and pellet models, pizza ovens, travel barbecues and accessories, with brands such as Pit-Boss, Weber, Traeger, Ninja, Solo Stove and YETI. The company offers BBQ courses, with the 2027 schedule already announced at the time of analysis. The camping section includes coolers and essentials, and the cook shop covers kitchenware and bakeware, pots and pans, small appliances, food storage and preparation, utensils, crockery, glassware, mugs and tableware, as well as hardware and bins, bathroom and laundry items.

Christmas, gifts and other sections

The Christmas section (Christmas World) brings together real and artificial trees, pre-lit trees, mini trees and snowy trees, accessories and lighting systems, LED and battery candles, outdoor light-up decorations, baubles, bows, foliage, wreaths and garlands, Christmas entertaining items, crackers and table linen, as well as gifts and crafts. The gift section is organised by recipient (for her, for him, for children, for the home, for foodies), with fragrance, wellness, Irish art, fashion accessories, gift sets, bags and soft toys. The pet store offers dog beds, leads, collars and harnesses, and small pet supplies. There are also furniture and outdoor outlet sections, and an own-brand seaweed range, Wasi Seaweed.

Café and services

The complex has Eden Café, its own café, and a loyalty app, Eden Rewards. The company offers a call-back service within 48 hours, gift card, free parking and a stated area of more than 30,000 m² of garden and home inspiration. It opens seven days a week. At the time of analysis, the site published content such as October gardening tips, a compost guide and recommendations for attracting birds to the garden.
