Thomas 1971 Tavern
A Dimitrakopoulou taverna revisiting Athenian home cooking: sourdough bread, pastitsio, baked vegetables and lamb.
About Thomas 1971 Tavern
Thomas 1971 stands on Dimitrakopoulou, one of the streets linking everyday Koukaki with the area around the Acropolis Museum. Its name should not be taken as a verified foundation date: the restaurant itself presents the dining room as a revival of post-war Athenian tavernas, with worked wood, marble surfaces and fabric-covered walls. This is a different setting from a monumental-view terrace or a tasting-menu table.
The menu runs through recognisable Greek home dishes. There is pastitsio with pasta, minced meat and béchamel; beef giouvetsi with orzo, tomato and graviera; and briam of baked vegetables with galeni cheese cream, as well as tzatziki, dolmadakia and salads. The restaurant highlights its daily-made sourdough bread and publishes separate vegetarian and vegan menus. Not all those dishes have visible prices on the PDF consulted, although bread is listed at EUR 1.50 per person with tax included.
On September 23, Google Maps showed a community-reported range of EUR 15–40 per diner from 329 contributors, useful only as an indication: it does not show what they ordered or whether drinks were included. Thomas's value is in building a taverna meal from starters, vegetables and stews without committing to a long set menu. Its website links the lunch and dinner menu; current choices should be checked there rather than treating the Easter special as a general price guide.
