About Shila Athens
Shila Athens, boutique suites hotel in Kolonaki
Shila Athens is a boutique suites hotel located in a late-1920s neoclassical building in the Kolonaki neighbourhood, in central Athens. The house, which the company itself describes as an ethereal residence, brings together six distinctively designed suites, each with its own character but with a unifying element of simplicity and sensual charm. The accommodation presents itself as a place to feel looked after and at home, while experiencing a realm of elegance and sensuality.
Suites and spaces
The hotel has six unique suites: Garden Retreat, Romantic Dust, La Boheme, The Dreamers, Attic Antique and Artist Atelier. Common spaces include a lush courtyard, a tranquil rooftop, lounging areas and reading nooks, as well as a library and a lounge. These spaces are offered for social gatherings, art happenings and private events.
Services and experience
Shila Athens offers intuitive hospitality in which privacy is respected and services are bespoke. Communication begins before arrival and continues after the stay. Concierge hours run from 07:30 to 23:30; to request 24-hour concierge service or any custom request, the company asks guests to write at least 24 hours in advance to hello@shila-athens.com. Breakfast is made with local ingredients and selected artisanal baked goods, and is served in the suite itself. The hotel produces exclusive products that can be tried and purchased on site, thanks to partnerships with artisanal suppliers in Greece.
Location and surroundings
The hotel is located on a quiet pedestrianised street in the Kolonaki neighbourhood, a short distance from central Athens. The area is one of the city's liveliest hubs for fashion, art, food, nightlife and live music, and is home to a wide range of art and history museums, including the Benaki Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art and the B&E Goulandris Foundation. Mount Lycabettus is accessible on foot and offers hiking routes and city views, while the Acropolis is a short journey away.
Design and aesthetics
The interior combines original architectural elements with raw textures, custom-made furniture and antique pieces. Natural materials such as marble and stone are used alongside metal structures, locally produced wood and vintage fabrics. The furniture selection comes from a Greek family carpentry business active from the 1920s until the turn of the century, which also worked with a line of vintage fabrics from different parts of the world for upholstery. The company describes entering Shila as accessing a narrative that envelops the senses.
Events and projects
In addition to accommodation, Shila Athens presents itself as a hybrid space between hotel, design studio, members' club and art space. Its projects span pop-ups, photo and film productions, private dinners, business meetings, exhibitions and intimate celebrations. The hotel also offers the possibility of booking the entire space for stays or special events.
Origin of the concept
The name Shila refers to the Sanskrit term शील, meaning character. The project starts from the building's details — the original terrazzo floors, the high ceilings and the wild garden — to conceive a place that goes beyond a hotel: the home and workshop of an enigmatic muse named Shila. The company also announces the opening of its sister boutique hotel and concept space, Mona.
