About Erlebnis-Zoo Hannover

Erlebnis-Zoo Hannover: A Themed Zoo in Hanover

Erlebnis-Zoo Hannover is a zoological park in Hanover that presents itself as a place to explore world-themed areas in a single day and see animals up close. Its offerings combine a traditional zoo visit with attractions, guided tours, safaris, animal encounters, and children’s activities such as games and birthday celebrations.

Tickets, Hours, and Planning a Visit

The zoo sells day tickets and annual passes through its online shop. Visit planning is organized around opening hours, prices, a daily schedule of feedings and shows, and directions and parking. The website also offers hotel suggestions for visitors combining a stay with a zoo visit.

Animals and Themed Areas

The park has an A-to-Z animal directory and organizes its grounds around different themes. Featured news includes the return of Aldabra giant tortoises and the birth of a baby sloth, born to “Aimara” and “Artus” on September 7. The zoo also shares a construction diary for the elephants’ new home.

Conservation and Research

The zoo runs conservation programs at its own facilities and around the world, including local projects. Its research work has a dedicated strategy, areas of specialization, partnerships, and specific projects. The organization also channels public support through donations, animal sponsorships, and other ways to get involved.

Education: The Zooschule

The Zooschule offers educational programs for schools, including visits and workshops, and for preschools and daycare centers, including activities for young children and multiday project weeks. Teachers can access resources such as educational materials, and the zoo school has a partner-school program. It describes itself as an award-winning place to learn and sponsors the ZAP! conservation award, a school competition for Lower Saxony.

Events and Celebration Venues

The zoo hosts a calendar of events, including Canadian Night, the Lantern Parade, Eisstockschießen, and ZooLights, along with activities throughout the year. It offers several venues for celebrations and meetings: the Prunksaal in Maharadscha’s Dschungelpalast; the Canadian-inspired Yukon Market Hall; Meyers Hof’s traditional Festscheune; Yukon Queen, with its underwater setting; Café Kifaru on the banks of the Sambesi; Kammerfach at Hoflokal, with garden and terrace access for 20 to 50 guests; and the Alte Werkstatt, also at Meyers Hof. These spaces are used for company parties, meetings, weddings, family celebrations, and children’s birthdays.

Publications and Outreach

The zoo shares information through Zoo-News, its blog, the ZOO-Journal, and a newsletter with news and activities. It also publishes press releases and has a section about its television appearances, including the series “Seelöwe & Co.” Its 20 episodes are scheduled to air weekdays at 4:10 p.m. on the first channel starting October 1, 2026.
