InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa: overwater villas and thalassotherapy in French Polynesia

InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa is a resort located on Motu Piti Aau, an islet in Bora Bora's lagoon whose name means 'islet of two hearts.' The resort opened in 2006 and, according to its own presentation, set out to offer a singular experience in one of the most extraordinary corners of the world. After twenty years in operation, it closed its doors on June 1, 2026 to undertake a full renovation aimed at upgrading the guest experience. The property is owned by Beachcomber Thalasso SAS and operated by InterContinental Hotels Group.

Accommodation: overwater villas and suites

The accommodation offering is built around overwater villas, with different orientations and amenities. Standard villas have 65 sqm of indoor space and 30 sqm of terrace, with capacity for three adults or two adults and two children. They come in four variants depending on the view: beach, lagoon, Bora Bora Island and Mount Otemanu.

The Overwater Pool Villas add a private pool and expand the terrace to 58 sqm, while keeping the 65 sqm of indoor space and the same capacity. They are available with beach or lagoon views, the latter with an endless panorama over the horizon. In the upper tier, the Teremoana Pool Villas offer views of Mount Otemanu, 195 sqm of indoor space and 108 sqm of terrace, with capacity for four adults and four children.

Dining and bars

The resort has several dining venues. Le Corail is the signature restaurant, serving experimental cuisine in an intimate setting, open most nights except Mondays and Fridays. The Reef Restaurant serves breakfast and dinner al fresco with Mediterranean cuisine, from 6:30 to 10:30 and, most nights, from 18:30 to 21:30. The Sands Restaurant, with a casual beachside atmosphere, offers local and international cuisine with an Asian influence and exotic cocktails, and is open most days from 12:00 to 21:30.

The bars complete the offering: Bubbles Bar, with a contemporary design using local materials, serves mixology cocktails from 17:00 to 22:30; Sands Bar & Sunset Theater is a beachside gathering spot to watch the sunset against the silhouette of Mount Otemanu, with cocktails and appetizers from 10:00 to 18:30. In addition, themed nights are organized with traditional Tahitian dance and fire dance performances, featuring Polynesian or international cuisine, with programming subject to change. The resort also offers romantic experiences on request.

Thalasso spa and wellness

The property is home to French Polynesia's only Thalasso spa, according to its own presentation, dedicated to holistic wellness experiences in the South Pacific. The spa and wellness offering is complemented by activities and excursions by land, sea and air.

Organic garden and sustainability

The resort launched a 1,000 sqm organic garden divided into two areas: one for aromatic herbs to supply the entire resort and another for producing local fruit and vegetables for Le Corail restaurant. The project uses permaculture methods and makes use of green waste to produce its own compost, allowing cultivation without fertilizers. Sustainability is presented as a pillar of protecting the natural and cultural heritage.

Events, weddings and groups

The resort offers services for events and groups, from intimate celebrations to large occasions, with tailored proposals. In the area of weddings, the property's service covers unions, vow renewals and romantic getaways.

Renovation in progress

The June 1, 2026 closure is due to a full renovation. Until mid-2026, the interior renovation of the overwater villas in the south wing was planned. The site refers to the FAQ for all the details about this work.
