About Tomi Ungerer Museum – International Centre for Illustration

The Tomi Ungerer Museum is in Villa Greiner, near Place de la République, and houses 14,000 drawings that the illustrator donated to his home city. It goes beyond the children’s books for which many readers know him: the collection also includes satire, advertising and work for adults. Displays rotate by theme, so the galleries show different parts of the collection at different times.

Published admission is €9 at the standard rate and €5 reduced. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, with a 1–2 p.m. break on weekdays and continuous 10 a.m.–6 p.m. hours at weekends; last entry is at 5:30 p.m. The city museums list occasional closures for exhibition installation: this museum, for example, closed from August 31 to September 17, 2026. Facilities include a lift, wheelchair and folding-stool loans, and a hearing-assistance system at the ticket desk.

Trams B, C, E and F stop at République, as do buses L6, 15 and 72. The museum can be paired with a walk through the Neustadt or a visit to the Palais Rohan, though both may be too much for one afternoon. For families, its mix of humour, illustration and adult work makes the current exhibition worth checking before you decide whether it suits each child.
