About Le Bœuf sur le Toit
Le Bœuf sur le Toit: Restaurant, Bar, and Music Hall in Paris
Le Bœuf sur le Toit presents itself as a place to spend an entire evening without leaving: guests can move from the restaurant to the bar, then to the music hall, cigar lounge, or private rooms. The venue describes itself as constantly evolving, bringing dinner, drinks, and entertainment together at one address.
A Historic Address Linked to Artists
The venue dates its opening to 1922 and connects its history to a circle of artists, musicians, poets, and painters who gathered weekly around Jean Cocteau, then the owner. The names the venue cites include Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, Francis Picabia, Picasso, Erik Satie, and, later, Charles Trenet and Léo Ferré. According to its account, those evenings led to impromptu concerts and performances, and the expression “faire un bœuf”—to improvise together—was born within these walls.
Décor Inspired by 1920s Paris
Multidisciplinary designer Alexis Mabille reimagined the décor, drawing on the restaurant’s most celebrated decades: the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. The design revisits Art Deco with graphic lines and mirrored accents, pairing the warmth of marquetry wood with gold-leaf bronze. The result preserves the venue’s original spirit and places artists at the heart of the project.
Restaurant, Bar, and Music Hall
The offering is spread across several spaces. The bar does not require reservations and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. The brasserie becomes a stage for artists, musicians, and dancers performing throughout the evening. The music hall hosts a show program supported by some of the industry’s best-known names. After the live performances, a DJ keeps the music going until 2 a.m.
Dinner and Show Options
The venue offers different formats depending on the day and space. In the brasserie, à la carte dinner with piano and vocals begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Thursday through Saturday, à la carte dinner with piano and vocals runs from 7 to 9 p.m.; a set menu for €96 is offered from 9:30 p.m. In the music hall, Thursday through Saturday, dinner with piano and vocals precedes a show starting at 9:30 p.m., with a €150 set menu. The venue says the €150 menu is required for all guests on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays; in the brasserie, the €96 menu is required for all reservations during the second seating on those same days.
Cocktails and Private Spaces
The cocktail list is the result of a collaboration with Hennessy. The signature creations trace the cognac house’s 250-year history. The venue also has a cigar lounge and private rooms and offers services for groups and private events.
