About Domaine de Primard

Domaine de Primard: A Country Estate About an Hour from Paris

Domaine de Primard is a country estate with accommodations in Guainville, in France's Eure-et-Loir department, about an hour from Paris and a few minutes from Giverny. It presents itself as a romantic country house and rural retreat, with a château, park, and gardens, and is part of the Fontenille Collection.

Accommodations are spread across 39 rooms and suites. Four distinctive categories include Signature Suites, 42 to 51 square meters, overlooking the park and gardens; the 36-square-meter Grande Junior Suite Deluxe, with views of the Eure River; the 30- to 32-square-meter Grande Deluxe Signature, overlooking the park, château moat, and fountain; and the 41-square-meter Junior Suite Balcony, with the château's only balcony overlooking the park and moat.

Restaurants and Dining

The estate's dining offer includes several spaces. Bistrot Martin serves a Sunday brunch from noon to 3 p.m. Ottavio La Tavola is an Italian restaurant inspired by large family homes, with generous dishes made for sharing and a setting that opens onto the gardens. A Table d'Hôtes offers tastings of Fontenille & Antoinette wines with a charcuterie and cheese board. The estate's cooking draws on its own kitchen garden and changes with the seasons, using dishes made with local producers' ingredients.

Spa, Sports, and Wellness

The Domaine de Primard spa covers 450 square meters and includes a sauna, hammam, Japanese bath, single and double treatment rooms, a relaxation area, and a tea room. Treatments and massages use Susanne Kaufmann products, and a Nooānce LED treatment is also available. The grounds have an outdoor heated pool open April through October, a fitness room, tennis and paddle courts, and spaces for yoga, Pilates, or meditation, with yoga mats available. Golfers can reach the Hersant course in five minutes.

Notable Gardens and Natural Setting

The Primard park, on the banks of the Eure River, was designed more than 35 years ago by landscape architect Jacques Wirtz. It includes rose gardens, shaded paths, open landscaped areas, 250 varieties of roses, a permaculture vegetable garden, century-old boxwoods, and a children's play area. The garden holds the Jardin Remarquable designation and was scheduled to open to outside visitors in April 2026, with reservations available beginning in spring 2026. Guided walks are led by the estate's head gardener or a member of the team. Giverny, home to Claude Monet's gardens, is about 25 minutes away.

Farm, Wildlife, and Activities

The estate has a farm with animals living semi-freely, including white swans, wild ducks, Highland cattle, Ouessant and Valais Blacknose sheep, and two donkeys. Pets are allowed. The property presents the grounds as a natural sanctuary to explore throughout the seasons.

Experiences and Additional Services

Experiences include wine tastings, guided garden walks, and wellness stays. The estate offers spaces for private events and sells gift boxes, a selection of organic wines and fine foods, and a day pass. The website listed a seasonal offer: for stays booked from Sunday through Thursday during September, breakfast was included.
