Ren Cykel: network of bicycle repair workshops in Copenhagen

Ren Cykel is a Danish company dedicated to bicycle repair and maintenance that operates six local workshops and a home pickup and delivery service. Its coverage area is the Copenhagen metropolitan area and surroundings, and according to the company's own data, more than 30,000 bicycles pass through its facilities each year, including electric, cargo and conventional bikes.

Workshop services and home pickup

The company offers two main service options. On the one hand, customers can go to one of its fixed workshops; on the other, they can use the home pickup and delivery service, called Hent & Bring, which transports the bicycle from the customer's home to the workshop and returns it once repaired. The transport cost is 49 Danish kroner, while repair and spare parts rates are the same as at the physical workshops.

The pickup process is organised in four steps: the customer books a time slot, the bicycle is collected from their home, a mechanic calls to agree on the work to be done and, finally, the bicycle is repaired and returned. The company states that most repairs are ready by the next working day.

For electric bicycles, the company requests that they be handed in together with the key, battery and charger. In the case of cargo bikes, it asks that the box be emptied and the chain lock removed from the frame before pickup.

Ren Cykel repairs conventional, electric, cargo, mountain and special bicycles, and states that it works with practically all brands present on Danish roads. The company also services bicycles of foreign origin, including those using belt drive, although it warns that in these cases some spare parts may take longer to arrive. It also performs software updates and repairs on bicycles with electric systems from brands such as Bosch, Brose and Shimano.

According to information published by the company, it has more than 45 professional and trained mechanics. The firm claims that 90% of repairs are ready by the next working day and that it offers a two-year legal warranty on repairs. It also states that its customers give it an average satisfaction score of 4.9.

Mobile workshops for businesses

In addition to the fixed workshops, Ren Cykel has four mobile workshops that travel mainly to businesses in Copenhagen on weekdays, although they can also visit residential areas. The service is open both to employees of the visited company and to people outside it who wish to book a slot for their bicycle.

Service conditions and frequently asked questions

The company details some conditions of its service. The initial estimate is free, but if the customer declines the repair after the bicycle inspection, a charge of 199 kroner applies for handling and time worked. Bicycle cleaning is not included in the service package and can be added as an extra; it is billed at an hourly rate of 649 kroner and consists of a surface wash of the frame and, where applicable, the box, without cleaning the inside of the latter. Customers can request one-off repairs without purchasing a full package, specifying the work when booking. Pickup and delivery addresses can be changed via the website chatbot, and cancellations are also handled through that channel. Gift vouchers are sent by email a few minutes after purchase.

Ren Cykel has workshops in Bellakvarteret, Islands Brygge, Nordhavn, Sluseholmen, Ørestad and 8tallet, in the Carlsberg Byen area. The general workshop hours are Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:00 and Saturdays 10:00 to 16:00, closed on Sundays. Telephone service is available Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 15:00 and Friday 08:00 to 14:30, with no service on Saturdays and Sundays.
