About Global Health Services Canada Inc.

Global Health Services Canada Inc.: laser therapy and photobiomodulation in Ontario

Global Health Services Canada Inc. (GHS) is a Canadian clinic offering non-invasive treatments based on photobiomodulation (red light therapy), electromagnetic stimulation and personalized recovery protocols. Its approach combines scientifically supported protocols with advanced human performance techniques to address chronic pain and other medical conditions.

Treatment areas

The clinic states that it treats chronic pain, obesity, post-traumatic brain injury, migraine, depression, dementia and Alzheimer's. In addition, its service menu includes breast reduction, diabetes and endocrinology, dermatology, longevity, neuropsychiatry, oncology, ophthalmology, urology and vaginal rejuvenation.

Photobiomodulation: the basis of its approach

GHS describes photobiomodulation (PBM) as a non-invasive photonic therapy capable of addressing immune-inflammatory, neurological and musculoskeletal disorders, as well as promoting the healing of oral and chronic skin wounds. According to its explanation, during PBM light is applied at a specific wavelength, either in the visible or near-infrared (NIR) range. Photophysical and photochemical processes can stimulate or inhibit various biological processes depending on the target tissue, wavelength, irradiance, fluence, pulse frequency, spot size, optical data of the tissue and treatment regimen. The company mentions that there are several randomized clinical studies demonstrating the benefits of PBM as a main or adjuvant therapy.

Mechanism of action according to the clinic

The clinic explains that light is absorbed by chromophores in the cell mitochondria via cytochrome c oxidase, the primary photoacceptor for the red and near-infrared light range in mammalian cells. Light absorption stimulates the electron transport chain, which leads to the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the release of nitric oxide (NO). According to GHS, ROS are free radicals and reactive molecules that originate from molecular oxygen produced during electron transport as by-products. Although it was presumed that these molecules only have damaging effects on cell components, it has recently been demonstrated that they play significant and beneficial roles in cell signaling processes and other physiological processes. The induction of these molecules by LLLT has positive effects by inducing transcription factors such as nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB) and activator protein-1 (AP-1), which in turn promote gene expression, thereby increasing protein synthesis, cell proliferation, cell migration, production of cytokines and growth factors, as well as increased tissue oxygenation. Furthermore, the absorption of photons by mammalian cells regulates enzymatic activity and balances both intracellular and extracellular pH.

Research and development

GHS claims to have played a leading role in the research and development of photobiomodulation in Canada and the United States for over 10 years. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, specialists, allied health care providers, clinical researchers, physicists and innovators, the company maintains that it has developed the world's first evidence-based photobiomodulation protocol for the most effective use of laser energy, backed by leading clinical research.
