Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge: Remote Luxury on Vancouver Island

Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge is a luxury retreat set in a remote natural environment on Vancouver Island, in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It presents itself as a luxury Canadian safari camp, with twenty-five white canvas tents situated on the shores of Clayoquot Sound and among the forests of the Bedwell Valley. The property spans 600 acres of pristine wilderness and offers guests direct and exclusive access to an environment inhabited by black bears, otters, whales, sea lions, and bald eagles.

Safari Tent Accommodation

The accommodation is spread across twenty-five luxury tents in different categories: Rainforest Deluxe, Waterfront Deluxe, Rainforest Ensuite, Waterfront Ensuite, and Hillside Family. Each tent is equipped with luxury amenities and offers views of the ocean, forest, or mountains. Capacity is limited, ensuring an intimate and personalized experience.

Experiences and Activities

The lodge offers a wide range of experiences designed to explore the natural surroundings. These include adventures in Clayoquot Sound, heli experiences (such as heli-hiking and heli-excursions), canyoning, wildlife-viewing cruises, hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. Wellness experiences are also offered, such as the Glacial Plunge, which seeks to connect with nature through cold water. The 2026 season runs from May 21 to September 27, inclusive.

Dining

The lodge's culinary offering is inspired by the natural beauty of Vancouver Island and focuses on local, sustainable Pacific Northwest produce, including foraged and locally grown ingredients. Executive Chef Benjamin Godin creates gourmet dishes such as fir broth and sablefish, paired with premium wines and cocktails. The dining experience is an integral part of the stay.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing is woven into the lodge's daily experience. Facilities include a waterfront massage tent, spa treatment rooms, sauna, yoga studio, and cedar hot and cold tubs. The Healing Grounds Spa offers a variety of treatments and wellness experiences that can be booked.

Packages and Inclusions

The lodge offers special packages that include additional benefits. The Bedwell Safari package, for example, offers seven nights for the price of six plus a CAD$500 lodge credit and a massage. The Beckons Escape package consists of a three- or four-night stay with generous benefits. These packages are designed for extended stays and are usually inclusive. The opening season is from May to September.

In 2024 it earned Three MICHELIN Keys, being one of only two lodges in Canada and one of twenty in North America to receive this honor. It has been included in Robb Report's list of the 50 Greatest Luxury Hotels on Earth in 2025 and 2026, in the Fodor's Finest 2025 list, and has been recognized as the best resort in Canada and number 25 in the world in the Readers' Choice Awards 2025. Environmental Commitment

The lodge has implemented a solar energy and battery microgrid system, the largest solar project on Vancouver Island, comprising 1,512 solar panels, allowing it to operate largely off-grid. This initiative reflects its commitment to sustainability and conservation of the natural environment.
