Second Specs

Second Specs: Canadian optical with same-day service

Second Specs is a Canadian-owned optical chain that opened its first store in Edmonton in 2013. The company presents itself as a Prairie-based business with multiple locations across Alberta and Saskatchewan. Its focus is on speed and price: same-day prescription glasses, affordable contact lenses, and sunglasses, with the option to direct bill most insurance providers.

Prescription glasses and lenses with express service

The prescription glasses selection includes designer frames, everyday essentials, and lightweight options for different face shapes and styles. The company works with single-vision, bifocal, and progressive lenses, and offers the option to have glasses ready the same day. According to the store's own information, it is possible to save up to 30% on designer frames. In addition, the company notes that every glasses purchase helps provide eye care to people in need.

Contact lenses from trusted brands

In the contact lens section, Second Specs carries daily and monthly lenses from brands such as Acuvue, Dailies Total 1, Alcon, and Proclear, among others. The selection covers lenses for astigmatism and multifocal lenses. The company emphasizes that it does not apply hidden fees at checkout and that it aims to offer the lowest prices without sacrificing quality.

Sunglasses with UV protection

The sunglasses section includes designer styles and prescription options. The company emphasizes full UV protection and the ability to choose polarized or prescription lenses. Sunglasses can be purchased both in store and online.

Direct insurance billing and walk-in service

Second Specs direct bills most insurance providers, which simplifies buying glasses for its customers. The company welcomes walk-ins and has licensed opticians. Its store network is organized by city —Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Rocky View County, Saskatoon, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, and Strathmore— and by province, with a presence in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
