SOS Storage On Site

SOS Storage On Site: Portable Storage and Moving in Collingwood, Ontario

SOS Storage On Site is a family-owned business established in the early 1990s. It emerged to address storage needs that traditional facilities could not adequately cover, using portable containers that are delivered to the location specified by the customer. Its main office is in Collingwood, Ontario, and it has a second office in Thornbury, Ontario.

Portable Containers: Features and Security

The containers sold by the company are made of 8-gauge steel, making them a durable and secure option. According to the company's information, they are rodent-proof, windproof, and watertight. They are kept clean and in good condition to pass inspection by neighbours. For those who purchase a container and need extra security, the company offers to weld a lockbox onto the door.

The company has 20-foot-long containers, which cover most needs, and 40-foot containers, typically used for commercial applications. The stated dimensions for the containers are 8' x 20' and 8' x 40'.

Storage and Moving Services

SOS Storage On Site offers three service options that, according to its presentation, traditional storage facilities do not usually provide:

• Delivery of a container for the customer to load, followed by transport to the new destination, where it can be unloaded with no time limit at either end.
• Pickup of the loaded container and storage at the company's facility until the customer needs it.
• Purchase or rental of a container for long-term use at the customer's home or business in the Collingwood, Ontario area.

The company also offers moving services, presented as a solution that reduces the stress of moving. In addition, it sells and rents sea cans (shipping containers), and offers 20- and 40-foot containers for purchase.

MULE Delivery System

For container placement, the company uses the MULE delivery system, which allows containers to be placed in tight spaces and locations inaccessible to a traditional tilt-deck truck. The MULE can manoeuvre containers into driveways, parking areas, and other restricted-access locations, minimizing disruption to the property. Narrow driveways, urban properties with limited access, locations with little turning space, and sites where traditional container delivery is not possible are indicated as ideal situations for this system.

Service Area

SOS Storage On Site's coverage includes Grey County, Bruce Peninsula, Simcoe County, and the communities of Collingwood, Craigleith, Duntroon, Feversham, Heathcote, Markdale, Maxwell, Meaford, Nottawa, Owen Sound, Ravenna, Singhampton, Stayner, Thornbury, Town of Blue Mountain, and Wasaga Beach.

Awards and Memberships

The company is a member of the National Portable Storage Association. In 2024, it received the Reader Favourite award in the business service centres category from CollingwoodToday.ca.
