Folder Fort 2.0: per-file encryption and post-quantum readiness

Version 2.0 of the platform encrypts each file with authenticated AES-256-GCM and a unique 256-bit key before it reaches storage, with TLS 1.3 for transmission. The key system is designed to adopt post-quantum standards as they are finalized, without the need to re-encrypt files. The company frames this feature in the context of the quantum threat: according to its approach, attackers steal encrypted data today to decrypt it in the future, and organizations such as NIST and the NSA have established timelines for the transition to post-quantum encryption.

Personal and business plans

Folder Fort offers two modes on the same storage engine, the same security, and the same applications. The personal plan is aimed at photos, videos, documents, and backups, with a free starter plan and payment based on the space needed. It includes encrypted storage, monthly bandwidth, previews of documents, media, text, and code, and access from any device via the web app.

The business mode allows operating a storage system under your own brand: customizable domain, logo, and theme, and the ability to resell storage to your own customers. It includes a beta document editor, reseller plans with Stripe billing, and direct links or file embedding as a CDN.

Folder Fort Business allows operating storage under your own brand. The reseller's customers access the system through the reseller's domain, with colors, borders, and backgrounds customizable via a theme builder. The reseller can set their own prices and charge through their Stripe account. The company describes this mode as a white-label storage system in which Folder Fort acts as the underlying infrastructure.

Migration from Folder Fort Classic

The company has announced the closure of Folder Fort Classic on November 16, 2026. Eligible lifetime customers receive 30 days free, a $40 credit per terabyte, and a permanent 50% discount on version 2.0. Completing the migration to 2.0 before September 30 comes with an additional $20 credit.
