About Vivid Sydney
Vivid Sydney, festival of light, music, ideas and food in Sydney
Vivid Sydney is an annual festival held in Sydney that structures its program around four pillars: light, music, ideas and food. It is organized by Destination NSW, which presents it as proudly owned, managed and produced by itself. The official website states that the 2026 edition will take place from 22 May to 13 June, while the 2027 edition is announced for 28 May to 19 June.
A 6.5 km light walk through central Sydney
The festival unfolds through a continuous 6.5-kilometre pedestrian route, called the Vivid Light Walk, which brings together 43 light art installations. The organization describes it as a more compact and easier-to-explore route than in previous editions, with a greater concentration of experiences. The four pillars of the festival — light, music, ideas and food — are present throughout this route, complemented by events at iconic venues and public spaces in and around the Sydney CBD.
Festival zones
The program is distributed across different areas of the city, each with its own character:
- Circular Quay and The Rocks: harbourside area that is home to some of Sydney's most recognizable landmarks. The program includes 19 light installations, 1 music event, 3 ideas events and 6 food offerings.
- Darling Harbour: a space focused on sound, light and interactive spectacle, with 11 light installations, 19 music events, 3 ideas events and the free Tumbalong Nights program.
- Barangaroo: an area presented as a cultural and creative nexus where storytelling and technology converge, with 12 light installations, 1 ideas event and 24 food options. It is noted as a family-friendly zone for those seeking a more relaxed experience.
- CBD and surrounds: concentrates the music, ideas and food program, with 1 light installation, 11 music events, 12 ideas events and 20 food offerings.
Participating venues
The festival extends to cultural institutions and concert halls in the CBD and beyond. Featured venues include:
- Sydney Opera House: home to the Vivid LIVE program, with 1 light installation, 38 music events and 2 food offerings. The organization describes it as a symbol of modern Australia, one of the world's busiest performing arts centres and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Carriageworks: cultural centre located in Eveleigh, in a former late 19th-century railway workshop, with 9 music events and 1 food offering.
- White Bay Power Station: venue located in Rozelle that forms part of the festival's spaces.
Program and access
The official website offers a program section with information on the various activities and a trip planning section. The organization also maintains a newsletter to provide early access to news, program announcements and ticket offers. The festival acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation as the traditional owners of the land and waters on which it is held.
