About Murrumba Downs Vet (VetMD)

Murrumba Downs Vet (VetMD): veterinary clinic for pets and exotic animals

Murrumba Downs Vet, known as VetMD, is a veterinary clinic located in Murrumba Downs, Queensland. It treats dogs and cats, but also a wide range of exotic animals: guinea pigs, rats and mice, birds, reptiles — including non-venomous snakes — and fish. The clinic has a veterinarian specialised in exotics who consults five to six days a week.

The veterinary team is led by Dr Liam Flanagan, lead veterinarian, who holds memberships in avian health and unusual pets. Dr Daniel McBain also shares an interest in exotics and wildlife. Alongside them are Dr Rebecca Burridge, Dr Megan Noye and Dr Charlotte Estreich, as well as Dr Dion Woodborne, visiting orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeon. The team is completed by a group of veterinary nurses and reception staff.

Facilities designed to reduce animal stress

The premises, formerly an open-plan video store, was converted into a fully equipped clinic. It has separate waiting areas for dogs, cats and exotics, with independent entrances. Cat carriers can be placed on special tables so the animal remains elevated and does not feel threatened.

There are three consulting rooms: one for dogs, one for exotics and pocket pets, and another exclusively for cats. The cat room incorporates a Feliway pheromone device to reduce stress, while the exotics room is kept at a warmer temperature and free from dog and cat odours. The clinic also has a private room for visits and grieving, and separate insulated hospital wards for dogs and cats, with large beds and clean bedding. The beds in the feline area include igloos and trays with biodegradable recycled litter.

Veterinary services

The clinical offering covers general medicine, health checks, nurse consultations, internal and external parasite control, vaccination, microchipping, puppy and kitten care, and senior animal monitoring. In the surgical field, desexing, orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery and specialist referrals are performed. Diagnostics include in-house blood tests, ultrasounds, radiology and other imaging tests.

The clinic also provides dental care, cancer care, weight loss, behaviour consultations, palliative and end-of-life care, and advice on food and prescription diets. It has an emergency service and a preventive health programme called Best for Pet. In addition, it organises puppy socialisation classes and keeps a selection of pet food and products for sale.

Team and work philosophy

The team presents itself as a group with extensive experience in exotic animals, birds and small mammals, as well as in dentistry, diagnostic imaging and surgery. The clinic emphasises its commitment to client education as a central part of care, so that owners can make informed decisions about their animals' care.

Consultation hours

The clinic is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 18:00, Saturdays from 8:00 to 13:00 and remains closed on Sundays and public holidays. Appointments can be booked online through a system updated in real time.
