ABC News

ABC News, the news service of the Australian public broadcaster

ABC News is the news portal of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Australia's public broadcaster. The site brings together national and international current affairs and presents itself as a reference news source in the country. Its content combines text, audio, and video, and includes live event broadcasts and on-demand material.

News coverage and sections

The homepage organises information into topical areas such as politics, world, business, analysis, sport, lifestyle, entertainment, and quizzes. A breaking news section collects the latest stories with date and time indications, while a local news section allows content to be tailored to the user's location via an ABC account. The site also offers in-depth features and analysis pieces by its journalists.

Languages and services for diverse audiences

In addition to English, ABC News publishes content in Chinese, Indonesian, and Tok Pisin, and maintains specific sections dedicated to Indigenous affairs. Programming is complemented by the ABC iview platform for video and ABC listen for audio.

Sports and cultural content

Sports coverage spans disciplines such as Australian rules football (AFL and AFLW), rugby (NRL), soccer, tennis, cricket, and netball. In the cultural sphere, the site includes sections on TV, film, books, music, and pop culture, with spaces like Double J dedicated to music.

Editorial initiatives

Among the participatory initiatives is the ABC Australian Insect of the Year competition, which in 2026 features two butterflies, two beetles, a fly, and a firefly as finalists, and allows the public to vote for the winner. The site also publishes editorial principles that guide its news work.
