About AAMI
AAMI, Australian insurer with car, home and business cover
AAMI is an Australian insurance brand that has been operating since 1969. Its catalogue covers car and vehicle, home and contents, business, health, life and income, pet and compulsory third party insurance. The company allows customers to get quotes, manage policies, pay or renew, download documents and make claims through its website and the AAMI mobile app.
Car and vehicle insurance
The vehicle offering includes comprehensive car insurance, which protects against accidental loss or damage to your own vehicle and for damage caused to other people's vehicles or property. It also offers a third party car policy, which covers damage caused to other people's vehicles or property.
For motorcycles there are two options: comprehensive cover, which protects the bike and third-party damage and includes two-wheel towing and riding gear; and third party cover, which covers damage to other people's vehicles and property, as well as damage caused to the motorcycle by uninsured drivers, with the option to add fire and theft cover.
The insurer also offers caravan insurance, designed both for travelling around Australia and for permanently installed caravans, with accident and theft cover, including accessories and fittings.
Home, contents and property
In the home and contents segment, AAMI offers a combined building and contents policy, building-only cover — which includes loss or damage to the building and its fixtures — and contents-only cover, which protects items not permanently attached to the home.
For owners who rent out their property, there is landlord insurance with an optional rent protection. Tenants have a specific policy for contents in a rented home. There is also strata insurance, which covers buildings with common property, such as duplexes, townhouses and apartments, against theft, break-ins and extreme weather events.
Compulsory third party insurance
AAMI offers compulsory third party insurance for vehicles in New South Wales (CTP Green Slip), which covers liability for injuries caused to third parties in traffic accidents. In South Australia it offers CTP cover and in the Australian Capital Territory the MAI (Motor Accident Injuries) insurance, which the customer can select when registering their vehicle with Access Canberra.
Health, life, income and pets
The company offers private health insurance with different levels of cover, from basic options to higher levels, adaptable to lifestyle and budget. In the life and income area, it offers life insurance to protect beneficiaries and income protection cover for cases of illness or injury that prevent working.
For pets, AAMI offers dog and cat insurance together with petinsurance.com.au, with the aim of making it easier to protect all members of the family.
Business insurance
More than 70,000 small businesses in Australia have taken out insurance with AAMI, according to the company itself. The business offering includes a small business policy, aimed at helping them recover from unexpected events; public liability insurance, which covers damage to property or injury to third parties caused by the business activity or products; and commercial vehicle insurance, which covers cars, utes, trucks and other work vehicles.
It also offers market stall and exhibitor insurance, with public liability cover of up to 10 million dollars from 124 dollars a year, according to the insurer's catalogue.
Policy management, claims and digital services
AAMI's website allows you to get a quote, retrieve a previous quote, start a claim, view or update a policy, pay or renew, download documents and track a claim. The company also offers the AAMI mobile app, available for iOS, which centralises information for eligible policies.
The insurer has a Disaster Hub help centre with guidance on the steps to take before or after a weather event. Eligible customers can also access cashback offers through the AAMI Driver Rewards program, subject to eligibility conditions and terms and conditions.
Awards and informative content
AAMI presents itself as a winner of the Canstar 2026 Outstanding Value awards in the car insurance and home and contents insurance categories for Australia, with national and state distinctions. The company also maintains a section of informative articles on car and home insurance, with topics such as the difference between sum insured and market value, comparing home and contents policies, saving by reducing the kilometres declared on the car policy and flood damage cover.
