About Living Earth Biology

Living Earth Biology: biological soil analysis and RootWise Balance

Living Earth Biology is a company based in the Byron Shire region of New South Wales (Australia), dedicated to biological soil analysis and the sale of a soil biology treatment. Its work serves both home gardeners and agronomists, consultants and professional growers.

Biological soil analysis for professionals

The company offers laboratory services consisting of biological soil analysis with real counts, not subjective ratings. According to published information, the report turnaround time is twenty-four hours from receipt of the sample and the document can be issued co-branded to the firm or company requesting it.

RootWise Balance, a biological treatment for home gardening

RootWise Balance is a concentrated soil biology product presented as a biological treatment, not as a fertiliser. It is intended for pots, raised beds and garden beds, and its purpose is to reintroduce beneficial biology around the root zone so the soil system can start functioning again. The recommended application is to add one teaspoon of the product to ten litres of water and apply it directly to the soil around the base of the plants, repeating weekly for the first month and then fortnightly as maintenance.

Background and approach of the company

The project grew out of the work of its founder, John, who for years has carried out soil microscopy assessments for farmers and growers across New South Wales. His training includes Dr Elaine Ingham's Soil Food Web School, and his work has been backed by Byron Shire Council's Regenerative Agriculture program, applying this biological approach on a market garden project in the region. The company maintains that the absence or scarcity of biology in the soil, rather than management mistakes, explains many disappointing results despite correct watering and feeding.
