About Wagepay

Wagepay: wage advances for Australian workers

Wagepay is an Australian company founded in 2020 that offers wage advances of up to $3,000 to workers who need funds before their payday. The company operates exclusively online, through its website and mobile app, and claims to have served more than 200,000 Australians since its creation.

How the service works

The process is structured in three steps: the user creates an account with their personal and contact details, securely connects their bank account, and confirms their expenses so the company can assess the amount it can advance. Once the application is approved and accepted, most customers receive the funds within 60 seconds through the New Payments Platform (NPP). For those who do not have an NPP-enabled bank account, funds are sent by electronic funds transfer (EFT), typically arriving the next business day if sent before the bank's cut-off time, or the following business day if made after, on a weekend, or on a public holiday.

Product conditions and features

Wagepay does not perform credit checks, so, according to the company, the user's credit score is not affected. It does not charge late payment or default fees. The service includes options to postpone the repayment date or split the repayment into two smaller amounts, available once per advance and subject to factors such as the customer's income cycle; they are not available if the advance is already in arrears or if a partial payment has been made. The company also offers real-time repayments through PayTo, being one of the first companies in Australia to adopt this system.

Pricing is tiered: selected customers with a good repayment history and financial health can access a reduced establishment fee. The applicable interest depends on the actual repayment period. The company states that users can manage the service without involving their employer, or connect their employer to verify employment and unlock additional discounts.

Complementary products

In addition to wage advances, Wagepay offers qualified customers a reward points program redeemable for gift cards, travel, and other items; a proprietary bank score with feedback on the factors that determine it; and free access to Equifax credit scores for selected customers with an excellent repayment history. The company operates entirely online through its mobile app and web portal.
