Mannys Music

Mannys Music, Australia's go-to for guitars and musical instruments

Mannys Music is a chain of musical instrument and pro audio stores operating in Australia. According to its own presentation, it has been part of the Australian music scene for more than three decades and grew from a single guitar shop in Melbourne into, in its words, one of the country's largest independent guitar and musical instrument retailers. The company defines itself by a simple idea: advice comes from someone who also plays.

Six stores in four cities

The company has six locations across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. In Melbourne, it is present in North Fitzroy and Windsor; in Sydney, in Alexandria and Crows Nest; in Brisbane, in Fortitude Valley; and in Perth, in West Leederville. The stores are multi-level, with extensive display space and dedicated demo rooms designed for trying instruments before buying. The company also notes that the Alexandria, Windsor and Fortitude Valley stores open on Sundays.

Catalogue: from guitars to DJ gear

The range covers electric, acoustic and bass guitars, amplifiers, keyboards, drums, DJ equipment, studio gear, pro audio and microphones, plus accessories and headphones. The offering is organised into categories such as guitar and bass, band and orchestral, keyboards, drums, live sound and PA, lighting, DJ equipment, studio gear, headphones and accessories. The company states it covers everything from beginner starter packs to professional touring rigs.

Brands and product selection

Among the brands the store declares it stocks are Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, PRS and Maton, alongside other guitar brands. The site features a staff picks section, presented as a selection made by its own employees, with no algorithms or sponsored slots, including specific models such as the Strandberg Boden Standard N2.6T, the Ibanez RG550 PN Genesis Collection, the Gretsch G6131-MY Malcolm Young Signature Jet, the Gibson Les Paul Special, the Fender Mike McCready Stratocaster, the ESP LTD EC-01FT, the Gibson ES-335, the Fender American Professional II Jazzmaster and the PRS SE Mark Holcomb SVN. The catalogue also includes a deals zone with guitar, drum, keyboard, live sound, studio gear and lighting specials, open box products, promotions and runout deals.

Buying services and support

The company offers free shipping on orders over $100 within Australia, 30-day returns and 2-hour Click & Collect in-store pickup. It has a customer support service with its own hours and a personalised advice channel for products and orders. It also publishes resources for musicians, such as guides on choosing a guitar, types of microphones, types of synthesis, tuning and humidity control with Boveda, as well as guitar setup and repair services.

Audience and approach

The business targets both beginners and active and touring professional musicians, with an offering that combines physical stores, online sales and advice from staff who play. The company also mentions an education programme, Mannys Education, aimed at the education sector.
