Dubai Metro works best when the itinerary respects its map
Dubai Metro is clean, air-conditioned and genuinely useful, but it is not a door-to-door answer for the whole city. The Red Line connects DXB Terminals 1 and 3 with major points along Sheikh Zayed Road, including the World Trade Centre corridor and stations used for Downtown, Business Bay, Mall of the Emirates, JLT and the Marina side of Dubai. The Green Line is more useful for parts of Deira, Bur Dubai and the Creek.
Travel requires a nol card or ticket. RTA divides the network into zones and calculates the fare according to the zones crossed; the Red Ticket is intended for occasional travel, while a Silver card is often more convenient for repeated journeys. Tap in and out correctly and keep sufficient balance. Trains also include designated cabins, including Gold Class and a women-and-children cabin, so visitors should read platform signs before boarding.
Airport access is strong, but arrival time matters
Dubai Airports lists direct Red Line service from Terminals 1 and 3. Current general operating hours run from early morning to midnight on most days, later on Friday, with a later start on Sunday. The Metro is not a solution for every overnight arrival, Terminal 2 does not have the same direct rail access, and luggage during busy periods can make a taxi more comfortable.
Official airport taxis operate around the clock from marked ranks and begin with an airport starting fare. Taxis and ride-hailing are also useful for the “last kilometer”: DIFC offices, hotels set back from stations, Palm Jumeirah, Al Fahidi lanes and many coworking locations may require walking in heat or a connecting ride.
The practical strategy is mixed. Use Metro when origin and destination sit naturally on the rail corridor, especially during road congestion; use a taxi when timing, luggage, heat, client presentation or the final address makes the transfer inefficient. Checking the RTA journey planner shortly before departure is more reliable than assuming that every famous Dubai location has a station at its entrance.
