Max's Steaks

North Philadelphia classic known for oversized cheesesteaks, late-night hours and a neighborhood identity far removed from the main tourist circuit.

About Max's Steaks

Max's Steaks is located at 3653 Germantown Ave in North Philadelphia. Founded in 1994, it became known for oversized cheesesteaks and for offering an experience rooted more in the neighborhood than in the traditional South Philadelphia tourist circuit. Sandwiches are available in half and whole sizes, with the full version large enough to share.

The menu includes steak and cheesesteak with American, provolone, Cooper Sharp, Swiss or Cheese Whiz, along with mushroom steaks, chicken cheesesteaks, hoagies, wings and sides. Max’s stays open late into the night and advertises free parking. Eagle Bar next door has long been associated with the Max’s experience.

The restaurant also has a place in Philadelphia popular culture, appearing in Creed and Creed II. It is a useful stop for diners who want a large, straightforward cheesesteak away from the city’s most tourist-heavy historic areas.
