Angelo's Pizzeria South Philadelphia

Angelo's Pizzeria South Philadelphia operates at 736 S 9th St in the Bella Vista/Italian Market area. Chef-owner Danny DiGiampietro moved the business from Haddonfield, New Jersey, to South Philadelphia in 2019 and built it into one of the city’s most in-demand pizza and cheesesteak destinations.

A major part of Angelo’s reputation comes from its bread: the shop bakes its own seeded rolls for cheesesteaks and other sandwiches. The pizza selection spans several styles, including thinner pies, grandma pies and thick upside-down Sicilian pizzas. The small shop is primarily takeout-oriented; lines can be long, and the 9th Street location is well known for operating on a cash basis.

Angelo’s earned a Bib Gourmand in the first MICHELIN Guide to Philadelphia, a distinction recognizing good quality and value. For many visitors, the combination of pizza, cheesesteaks and house-baked bread makes it one of the most representative food stops in South Philadelphia.
