Annenberg School of Nursing

Nonprofit nursing school offering vocational nursing, nurse assistant, and home health aide training.

About Annenberg School of Nursing

Annenberg School of Nursing (ASN) is a nonprofit nursing school in Reseda and a program of Los Angeles Jewish Health. It offers job-focused training for students pursuing Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Nurse Assistant (NA), and Home Health Aide (HHA) credentials. Its main draw for LVN candidates is a full-time, year-long program combining classroom instruction with supervised clinical practice. This is a focused vocational school rather than a degree-granting university, so prospective students should compare its licensure preparation, total cost, clinical placement arrangements, and aid eligibility with other state-approved programs.

Programs and training pathways

The Vocational Nursing program runs through four 12-week sessions and comprises 576 theory hours, 99 lab hours, and 855 clinical hours, for 1,530 hours total. Courses include anatomy and physiology, nursing fundamentals, medical-surgical and mental-health nursing, maternal and child health, and pharmacology. Graduates prepare for the NCLEX-PN, the examination required for California vocational-nurse licensure. The school also offers Nurse Assistant training leading to California certification and a 40-hour Home Health Aide course for candidates who already hold a current Nurse Assistant certificate. HHA applicants must also meet screening and health requirements. ASN reports a maximum of 24 students at a time in the VN program; ask admissions about the next start date, clinical schedule, and whether the Reseda or other instructional site has seats available. See the official program descriptions and current approvals and accreditation for details.

Admissions and total price

For the VN program, ASN lists a total fee of $25,100. The school says that amount covers the four sessions, uniforms, clinical supplies, textbooks, background check, physical and lab, CPR and safety training, exam preparation, NCLEX registration, and initial license. Confirm the current catalog and ask which expenses could still fall outside the stated fee. Applicants generally need a high-school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18, provide valid California identification and a Social Security number, and pass the required physical examination; international records require evaluation. The school notes that admission is selective and places are limited. The VN admissions page has the application link and current checklist.

Financial aid and scholarships

Qualified VN students may be eligible for Pell Grants, federal Direct Loans, ASN scholarships, and an interest-free loan offered through the Jewish Free Loan Association for eligible healthcare students. The school advises applicants to complete the FAFSA and list federal school code 041913. Scholarship funds depend on annual availability, and federal aid has eligibility and satisfactory-progress rules; ask the financial-aid office to explain what applies to the specific program and provide an individualized net-price estimate. Its published office hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reach the aid office at (818) 757-4450 or review the financial aid and scholarship guidance.

Accreditation and career outcomes

ASN is institutionally accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), and its VN program is approved by California’s Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. The NA and HHA programs have separate California Department of Public Health approvals. These distinctions matter: the VN diploma prepares students for an exam and state licensure, while the other programs lead to different certificates and have their own eligibility requirements. ASN publishes program-specific fact sheets with graduation, licensure, and employment data; review the latest fact sheet and verify current approval dates with the relevant agency before enrolling.

Reseda campus and additional training site

The main campus is at 18855 Victory Blvd., Reseda, CA 91335, on the Eisenberg Village campus of Los Angeles Jewish Health. Call (818) 757-4431 or email ASN@jha.org to ask about a tour and program availability. The public listing shows weekday hours of 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. and Saturday hours of 7 a.m.–3 p.m.; call ahead to confirm before visiting. ASN’s 2025–26 catalog also lists a separate educational center at 2035 Camfield Avenue in the City of Commerce, CA 90040, in AltaMed’s administration building. The catalog describes classrooms, labs, student space, and a resource center there. Confirm which cohorts and clinical arrangements currently use each location before commuting or signing an enrollment agreement.

Reading student comments carefully

A few recent public comments praise staff support, clinical opportunities, and preparation for the NCLEX-PN. Individual accounts cannot predict every student’s experience, so ask to speak with a current student, request details about clinical placements and attendance policies, and compare the latest published licensure outcomes before enrolling.
