University of Redlands
A nonprofit university with liberal arts, professional and graduate programs across its Redlands, Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area campuses.
About University of Redlands
The University of Redlands is a private nonprofit university whose original residential campus sits in the Inland Empire, about an hour east of Los Angeles. Its identity combines a liberal arts college experience with professional schools and graduate programs. A student choosing Redlands should first distinguish among its three principal settings: the 160-acre undergraduate campus in Redlands, the creative and professional programs at University of Redlands, Los Angeles (the former Woodbury University campus in Burbank), and the San Francisco Bay Area campus in San Anselmo, home to the San Francisco Theological Seminary. Programs, schedules and student services differ by location.
Programs and campus fit
In Redlands, the College of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate study across fields such as biology, business, computer science, data science, environmental studies, music, psychology and geographic information science. The Johnston Center for Integrative Studies is a distinctive option for students who want to design an interdisciplinary course of study with faculty guidance. The School of Business & Society and School of Education add undergraduate and graduate pathways; graduate offerings also include communication sciences and disorders, GIS, education, business and theology. In Burbank, the Los Angeles campus carries forward Woodbury’s architecture, design, media arts, filmmaking, fashion and business programs, including professional architecture degrees. San Anselmo is associated with the San Francisco Theological Seminary and selected graduate initiatives. The university has many additional degrees, so use its academic program directory to confirm the exact credential, campus, delivery format and admission requirements before applying.

Redlands also has regional learning locations for selected programs. Since those offerings and services can change, check the university’s campus locations directory and verify where your courses meet before arranging travel.
Tuition, scholarships and aid
For 2026–27, the Redlands Tuition Promise offers qualifying California first-year students from households meeting the stated income and asset limits full tuition coverage through gift aid. The university also advertises a first-year tuition cap of $18,000 for eligible California students with a recalculated GPA of at least 3.0 and family adjusted gross income below $300,000, and a $26,000 cap for eligible out-of-state first-year students with at least a 3.0 GPA. These programs apply to specified full-time College of Arts and Sciences entrants, and the published deadline to complete required aid forms is March 2, 2026. They cover tuition only: fees, housing, meals, books and supplies are excluded. Future-year grant totals can also change if government aid or tuition changes, so get an individualized aid offer and compare the full cost of attendance.
Other funding includes the Achievement Award, with published awards up to $37,000 per year; the need-informed Hunsaker Scholarship; and talent awards in art, creative writing, music and theatre. The Yuhaaviatam Excellence in Leadership Scholarship supports eligible Native American, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian students with a demonstrated community connection. Criteria, renewal conditions and award amounts vary; some institutional awards apply only to tuition and fees. Review the university’s scholarship and talent award details and the current tuition guarantees before relying on an estimate.
Applying
First-year students apply through the Common Application; the university lists spring and fall entry, with application checklists and deadlines by term. Transfer, graduate, international, music and theatre applicants have additional or separate requirements. Some programs require auditions or supplemental materials. Begin with the university’s application steps, then confirm the right process with the school that offers your program. Campus tours require advance reservations.
What students say
Student comments commonly value small classes, attentive professors and a close campus community; one current-student review describes getting meaningful faculty support and opportunities in a physics and data science path. Other public reviews raise the price of attendance and campus dining as concerns, and some students say a small, close-knit setting will not suit everyone. These comments are individual accounts, not a measure of every department. When you visit, ask how advising works in your major, what the net price would be after grants, and what meal plans and housing actually include. You can read more student reviews alongside the university’s published costs and program information.
