The Sound of Vinyl

The Sound of Vinyl: an online catalogue of vinyl records

The Sound of Vinyl is an online record store that presents a catalogue of thousands of albums spanning multiple genres and decades. Its offer is built around vinyl formats and includes colour vinyl, limited editions, box sets and picture discs, alongside standard pressings.

Formats and special pressings

The store organises its stock by format, with dedicated sections for 1LP, 2LP, 7-inch, 180g and heavyweight records, box sets, colour vinyl, liquid-filled records, picture discs and zoetropes. These categories indicate the range of physical editions available beyond conventional black vinyl.

Artists and genres in the catalogue

The catalogue is browsable by artist and by genre. Featured artists listed on the site include Amy Winehouse, Bob Marley, Elton John, Guns N Roses, John Lennon, KISS, Nirvana, Paul McCartney, Rush, Taylor Swift, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Tom Petty. Genres covered include Alternative & Indie, Country & Folk, Hip-Hop & R&B, Holiday, Jazz & Classics, Pop, Punk, Metal & Hard Rock, Rock, Soul & Reggae and Soundtracks.

Curated sections and seasonal selections

Beyond the general catalogue, the site groups records into curated areas such as Soundtracks, Color Vinyl, Picture Discs and Staff Picks. It also maintains sections for New Arrivals, SOV Exclusives, Limited Edition, Best Sellers, Greatest Hits and Halloween. A seasonal feature highlighted five holiday classics pressed on liquid vinyl, and the catalogue at the time of writing included titles such as The Beach Boys' Christmas Album in a sparkling holiday liquid-filled edition and A Motown Christmas in the same format.

Soundtracks and exclusive editions

The soundtrack selection includes releases such as William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet on ruby red vinyl, Labyrinth in a liquid-filled edition, The Fast & The Furious, Good Will Hunting, Boogie Nights, Bridgerton: Season Two, Rocky and Pretty In Pink on pink glitter-filled vinyl. Staff Picks featured items including Shrek on green liquid-filled vinyl, Bob Marley's Uprising in a liquid sunshine-filled limited edition, The Beatles' Rubber Soul as a super deluxe 5LP plus 7-inch box set, Rush's 2112 on liquid-filled LP and The Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness as a 30th anniversary super deluxe 6LP set.
