About Concordia University Irvine

Concordia University Irvine (CUI) is a private, nonprofit university in Orange County, California, affiliated with the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. It combines a broad undergraduate and graduate curriculum with a clearly stated Christian mission: students encounter faith as part of the institution’s identity and academic life. CUI is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). Its three teaching locations serve different purposes, so applicants should check which campus and format belong to their intended program.

Programs and learning options

The university offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate programs through Arts and Sciences, Education, Business and Economics, Health and Human Sciences, Christ College, and the Townsend Institute. Popular fields include business administration, economics, nursing, kinesiology, biology, psychology, education, music, and theology; graduate options include an MBA, Master of Healthcare Administration, public health, education, counseling-related programs, and nursing. The program finder shows current degrees, certificates, delivery formats, and entry requirements. Nursing applicants should distinguish the traditional Freshman Advantage Nursing pathway from the Accelerated BSN (ABSN), designed for eligible students who already hold a bachelor’s degree or qualifying prior credits. The ABSN is taught at the Spectrum site in Irvine and through a hybrid track based at Rancho Cucamonga.

CUI’s Lutheran Christian identity is not incidental: its mission describes a comprehensive Christian education and a commitment to serve society and the church. The university says it welcomes students from all backgrounds who are willing to engage with that mission. Prospective students who want a campus with a secular orientation should read the university’s description of its faith and learning model before applying.

Tuition and ways to pay

For Fall 2026 and Spring 2027, traditional full-time undergraduate tuition is $22,250 per semester for 12–18 units. The university lists a $500 student services fee each semester and a $150 parking fee for commuters and residents; housing, meals, books, and personal expenses add to the total. Part-time undergraduate tuition is listed at $1,291 per unit. The ABSN has a separate rate of $1,010 per unit, plus program fees, while graduate and credential costs vary by program. Check the current tuition and fees schedule for the full breakdown before comparing offers.

New first-year students may be considered for renewable academic awards ranging from $14,000 to $22,000 per year, based on weighted high-school GPA and full-time enrollment; the published renewal GPA is at least 2.5. Transfer, graduate, athletic, arts, church-service, and program-specific awards have separate rules. A nursing healthcare service scholarship is listed at $5,000–$10,000 per semester, capped at $20,000 total, with GPA, program, and renewal requirements. Need-based grants, federal aid, work-study, and loans are accessed through the FAFSA; CUI’s federal school code is 013885, and the university lists March 2 as the priority deadline for federal and state aid. Awards are conditional and do not apply to every student. Review the financial aid steps and scholarship requirements, then compare the final net cost in your own offer.

Student comments often describe a peaceful hilltop campus, a close-knit community, approachable professors, and strong personal support. Other recurring reservations concern limited course availability or scheduling, uneven administrative experiences, the visibility of religious coursework, and a quieter social scene for students who are not involved in athletics or campus groups. These are individual experiences rather than a guarantee of what every student will encounter; ask departments about course rotation, advising, and student life in your intended program.

For applications, admissions events, or a campus visit, use CUI’s admissions and visit information. The program finder and the university’s published catalog are useful next steps if you need to compare formats, degree requirements, or the right campus before submitting an application.
