About Trinity College

Trinity College is a private, nonprofit liberal arts college on a historic campus in Hartford, Connecticut. Its setting gives undergraduates a small residential college experience inside the state capital, with opportunities to connect coursework to the city through research, internships and community engagement. Trinity is best understood as a broad, discussion-oriented liberal arts college: students choose a major, but can combine fields and add minors or experiential certificates. The fit depends on more than the college name—prospective students should compare the cost after aid, the campus social environment and the type of access they want to Hartford.

Programs and the liberal arts experience

Trinity lists more than 50 majors, 45 minors, 25 experiential certificates and over 900 courses. Major areas include biology, neuroscience, chemistry and biochemistry; computer science, data science, engineering and environmental science; economics, political science, public policy and law; and humanities, languages, arts and social sciences. Students may also pursue interdisciplinary subjects such as international studies, human rights, urban studies and women, gender, and sexuality studies, or propose a student-designed major. The college reports that about 15 percent of students complete a double major and another 25 percent major in an interdisciplinary field. This flexibility is useful for students with interests that cross disciplines, but they should plan early with academic advisers to confirm prerequisites and course sequencing. See the official majors and minors directory for the current complete list.

Hartford is part of the academic experience rather than just a nearby city. Trinity describes research, internships and community-based learning opportunities in the area, while its study-away programs include locations such as Rome, Cape Town, Shanghai and Vienna. These are off-campus academic options; the primary campus and the address for admissions are at 300 Summit Street.

Tuition, financial aid and new Connecticut programs

For 2026–27, Trinity’s published standard direct charges total $96,480 for a full-time student living in standard campus housing with the traditional meal plan. That estimate includes $72,820 in tuition, $13,150 for a standard room, $7,180 for the meal plan, a $2,900 general fee and a $430 student activity fee. It is a published starting point, not a prediction of what an individual family will pay; additional course credits and personal expenses can change the budget. Trinity says it meets 100 percent of each admitted undergraduate’s calculated financial need and offers merit scholarships. Use its tuition and fee information and financial aid page and cost estimator to assess the net price and application requirements.

For students applying for fall 2027, Trinity announced three Connecticut access programs. Hometown Hartford provides financial support covering tuition, housing and meals for admitted students whose primary residence is in Hartford. Centered in Connecticut offers half-tuition grants for admitted students whose primary residence is in Hartford County or one of five adjoining counties: Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London or Tolland. Honoring Our Own provides full-tuition remission for admitted children of employees with at least three consecutive years of full-time service. Trinity also announced that it will no longer charge an application fee. These benefits have specific eligibility rules and apply to the 2027–28 entering cohort; confirm current details and deadlines directly with the college before relying on them.

What students say about campus life

Public student reviews describe a mixed experience. Many reviewers value close contact with professors, small classes, academic opportunities and the campus’s architecture. Others describe the social scene as cliquish or centered on athletics and Greek life, and some raise concerns about dining, campus facilities, administrative responsiveness or feeling disconnected from the surrounding city. These are individual perspectives, not a single campus-wide experience. When visiting, ask students outside of the tour group how they find friends, get advising, use Hartford for internships and travel, and access support if they are not involved in varsity sports or Greek life. The student review page offers additional firsthand comments to compare.
