Lyon College

Lyon College is a private nonprofit liberal arts college in Batesville with undergraduate majors, a nursing pathway, graduate teaching programs, and separate health-science schools in Little Rock and (planned) Cabot. Its 2026–27 direct cost and Arkansas-specific aid options are important to compare before applying.

About Lyon College

Lyon College is a residential liberal arts college in Batesville where students can choose from 31 majors, 31 minors, and interdisciplinary concentrations. Its offerings include biology and other natural sciences, business and economics, computer science and data science, education, psychology, humanities, fine arts, and nursing. Lyon is a distinct fit from a large public research university: students considering a small-campus experience should compare course availability in their intended major, the residential requirements, and the net price after aid. The current academic program catalog is the best place to check the full list and degree requirements.

Follow the right program and campus

The Batesville campus is the center for the college’s undergraduate liberal arts programs, including its Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Lyon’s RN-to-BSN pathway is for registered nurses progressing to a bachelor’s degree; prospective students should ask how prior nursing credits, clinical requirements, and course scheduling affect their completion plan. The college also offers graduate teaching pathways, including a Master of Arts in Teaching and a graduate certificate for teaching deaf or hard-of-hearing students.

Some health-science programs are based elsewhere. Lyon College School of Dental Medicine operates in Riverfront Plaza, Building 5, at 5 Allied Drive in Little Rock. Its three-year Doctor of Medical Dentistry program has a separate admissions office at (501) 437-8901; the patient-care clinic can be reached at (501) 512-0230. Check the dental program’s admissions requirements directly, since those are separate from undergraduate admission to Batesville. Lyon’s School of Veterinary Medicine is a planned branch campus at 1872 Tartan Boulevard in Cabot. The Higher Learning Commission approved the branch-campus request in September 2026, but the professional catalog says the school is awaiting its final veterinary accreditation visit and anticipates a 2027 first class. Treat it as a developing program, not an already accredited option, and verify the current status before making plans.

Applying and understanding the calendar

First-year applicants can use Lyon’s institutional application or the Common Application; the current checklist asks for an official high-school transcript. Transfer applicants use Lyon’s application and submit college transcripts, with a high-school transcript also required when the student has fewer than 12 college credits. Standardized test scores are not required for admission, though the college says ACT or SAT results may strengthen scholarship consideration. For the current published cycle, Fall 2027 Early Action is due November 15, 2026; Spring 2027 Regular Decision is January 8, 2027; and Fall 2027 Regular Decision is August 13, 2027. Confirm the right date for your applicant type and major on the application page, then request a transfer-credit review if applicable.

Compare the full price with aid

Lyon’s published 2026–27 direct cost for a typical residential undergraduate is $44,010, including tuition, required fees, a standard double room, and the 14-meal dining plan. Its estimated total cost of attendance, including books, transportation, and personal costs, is $49,110. Housing, meal choices, program-specific charges, and eligibility can change the amount, so use the college’s current net-price calculator and written award letter rather than the sticker figure alone.

Two Lyon awards are particularly useful to check. First-time, full-time students and fall transfer students who visit campus by May 1 can receive a $2,000-per-year Visit Grant; renewal requires at least a 2.0 Lyon GPA, and institutional aid cannot exceed full tuition. A student whose sibling, parent, or grandparent graduated from Lyon may qualify for the renewable $500-per-year Legacy Award. Arkansas residents should also file the state aid application through SAMS. Lyon’s Backyard Access Plan offers a separate tuition arrangement for eligible students commuting from a family home in North Central Arkansas: if the student contributes an amount equal to a full Pell Grant and the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, the plan says tuition can be covered with no additional out-of-pocket tuition; fees, books, and supplies remain extra. Even students without a Pell Grant may have tuition capped at the combined full-Pell and state-scholarship amounts under the plan. Ask Financial Aid to confirm residency, aid stacking, renewal, and commuter eligibility. Lyon recommends filing FAFSA by mid-February to maximize aid consideration; its FAFSA code is 001088.

Batesville campus and student perspectives

The main campus is at 2300 Highland Road, Batesville, AR 72501; the college’s general line is (870) 307-7000 and Admissions is (800) 423-2542 or admissions@lyon.edu. The public campus listing shows an 8 a.m. Monday opening, but Lyon’s official general contact page does not publish a full office schedule. Confirm the hours of the office you plan to visit and book a campus tour in advance. The additional instructional locations are the dental school at 5 Allied Drive, Building 5, Little Rock, and the planned veterinary branch campus at 1872 Tartan Boulevard, Cabot, whose enrollment remains contingent on professional accreditation.

Voluntary student comments often describe helpful professors and the advantages of a small academic community. Some reviewers also find Batesville quiet, with fewer entertainment choices away from campus. Those are personal impressions, not a promise that every student will have the same experience. During a visit, ask students in your major how often required courses run, what support exists when courses fill, and how residential life feels on weekends. Then compare your final aid offer with the full direct and estimated indirect costs. Read public student comments about Lyon.
