About Weathered Oak Studios
Weathered Oak Studios: story-led videography from the South West
Weathered Oak Studios is a videography studio that produces films for businesses, brands, events, weddings and families. The company presents its work as story-led filmmaking, built on understanding what matters to a client before making a film intended to earn attention rather than simply accumulate likes. It describes itself as award-winning, fully insured and available for work across the South West and UK-wide.
The studio is led by Dan, known as Bear, who attended film school and went on to work on music videos and a range of productions, receiving a Royal Television Society Award nomination. He then spent sixteen years working for the police before returning to film. The team has since grown beyond a single operator, and the site lists Adobe certification, a licensed drone pilot, first aid training, a DBS check and full insurance among its credentials.
Corporate, brand and event films
The core of the business is commercial filmmaking. Corporate and brand films are positioned around building trust through clear, human storytelling, while event filming is offered to capture the energy of a day and extend its useful life afterwards. Music videos are also produced, giving a track a distinctive visual identity.
Three sample projects illustrate the range of briefs the studio handles:
- Aldwick Estate — a brand film for a family-run vineyard and events venue in the Somerset countryside that produces English wines and hosts weddings, celebrations and corporate events.
- Dig for Victory — an event film for a 1940s-themed festival featuring military displays, vintage vehicles, live music, reenactments and period entertainment.
- Denholm ALPS — a corporate film for a specialist engineering team providing access, lifting and maintenance solutions for complex industrial and infrastructure projects.
Wedding films
Weddings are treated as a distinct discipline, described by the studio as films made without the conventional wedding video. The approach favours natural, cinematic coverage of the atmosphere, the people and the small moments, explicitly avoiding staged setups and prolonged posing. The stated aim is a record of the day as it actually felt.
Legacy films
Legacy Films are personal commissions made as a keepsake for future generations. The format consists of sitting down with someone the family loves and recording their stories, memories, laughter and small details — material families often only wish they had preserved once it is too late to capture it.
Training for filmmakers
Alongside production, the studio runs practical courses built around learning by doing, aimed at people who want confidence behind the camera and a workflow that holds up on set. Three courses are offered:
- Social Media Course — a one-day course covering planning, filming, editing and posting, including lighting, sound, presenting and simple editing, using equipment participants already own. No prior experience is required.
- Cinema Course — a three-day cinematography course covering camera craft, lighting, composition, movement, sound and editing with professional filmmaking equipment, from planning a shot to the final edit.
- Wedding Course — a one-day course on camera setup, audio, storytelling, working with couples and photographers, and capturing moments that can only be filmed once.
Where the studio works
Weathered Oak Studios is based in the South West of England and takes on projects across the UK. Enquiries are handled directly by the studio, which asks prospective clients to describe what they are planning, where it is and roughly what they need.
