HobbyRC UK: online radio control parts with a focus on drone racing

HobbyRC UK is a small, family-run business based in the United Kingdom that sells radio control model parts through its website, with a stated specialisation in drone racing. The company describes itself as trading online only, a choice it says keeps margins as low as possible so savings can be passed to customers. Its UK limited company, Optinium Ltd, was established in 2002, while trading through the HobbyRC website began in 2014.

The business states that it is VAT registered and pays full UK corporation tax on its profits. It also presents fair pricing and customer service as central aims, and says it offers free advice by telephone or email without pushing the most expensive equipment.

Fixed wing aircraft and ready-to-fly models

The fixed wing section covers model planes and related spares, including parts for VolantexRC, ZOHD and Hee Wing aircraft. The catalogue also lists RTF and ARF options, alongside fixed wing motors and propellers sized for these models.

Multirotor frames and quad categories

Quad frames are organised by size, from 2 inch frames through 3, 4 and 5 inch sizes up to 6, 7 and 10 inch frames. The range includes frame spares for Armattan, ImpulseRC, TBS, Ummagawd and KD Drones. Quads themselves are grouped into 5 inch and larger models, small quads and whoops, with Flywoo spares also listed.

FPV video, radio links and flight electronics

The FPV range is split between analogue and digital equipment. Analogue lines include cameras, VTX units and receivers, while the digital side covers cameras, VTX and receivers. Screens and goggles, antennae, cables and accessories, and ND filters complete this area.

For control and flight, the shop stocks radio transmitters, TX modules, receivers and radio accessories, plus flight controllers, GPS modules, power distribution boards and ESCs. Motors are divided into quad and fixed wing types, and propellers are sorted by size from 1 inch up to larger formats.

Batteries, chargers and workshop consumables

Batteries and chargers form a substantial part of the catalogue: LiPo packs are listed by cell count from 1S to 8S, alongside Li-ion cells, battery accessories and chargers. The store also carries fixings and fasteners, connectors and wire accessories.

Cars, boats, helicopters and merchandise

Beyond aircraft, the range extends to cars, boats and helicopters, including 1/76th scale helicopters, RC vehicles, boats and accessories, and OMPHobby spares. Merchandise includes clothing, backpacks and race gates, and the site also lists special offers and gift cards valued between £20 and £100.

Featured products shown on the site at the time of writing included the HDZero VRX Module, which allows compatible FPV goggles to receive the HDZero video image, and the HDZero Freestyle V2 Video Transmitter, offered in VTX or kit packages.
