Victorian Fireplace Store

Victorian Fireplace Store: original fireplaces and stoves in Stockport

Victorian Fireplace Store is a family-run business based in Stockport, Manchester, dedicated to the sale of original fireplaces and related products. The company describes itself as a trading name of Strippadoor Limited. Its catalogue combines fully restored original fireplaces and tile sets with a large stock of unrestored pieces, new fireplace products and cast iron stoves.

The business states that its original fireplaces and fire surrounds are taken from British homes and restored by its own expert team. This provenance is central to its offer: the pieces are presented as reclaimed architectural elements rather than new reproductions, although the site also sells reproduction tiles and new fireplace products.

Restored and unrestored original fireplaces

The original fireplace range is organised into several categories. Cast iron fireplaces, bedroom fireplaces, combination fireplaces, fireplace inserts and fire baskets are listed alongside fireplace surrounds in cast iron, marble, slate and wood. The company also maintains a separate unrestored stock, including unrestored bedroom fires and unrestored inserts, for buyers who prefer to acquire pieces before restoration.

According to the site, there are more than 500 unrestored fireplaces available, offered either as seen or restored by the company. Fully restored original fireplaces and tile sets are presented as a distinct line, allowing a fireplace and its tiles to be acquired together.

New fireplaces, stoves and tile collections

Beyond reclaimed pieces, the store carries new fireplaces under several collections. The Carron range includes combinations, fire baskets, inserts and surrounds. The Gallery Collection covers combinations, fascias, fire baskets, inserts, surrounds and tiles. The Penman Collection offers fireplace suites, stoves and surrounds, while Stovax products include convectors, fire baskets, fronts, inserts and surrounds.

Cast iron stoves are available in various sizes and colours, with electric, gas and solid fuel options. The stove selection is grouped into package deals, electric stoves, gas stoves and wood burning stoves, and the brands listed are Carron, Gallery Collection, Penman Collection, Stovax and Vesta.

Tiles form a substantial part of the catalogue. The store distinguishes original tiles, reproduction tiles, and wall and floor tiles, with Waxman Ceramics appearing as a brand in this section. Reproduction tile sets include designs such as the Alphonse Mucha Nocturnal Slumber and Evening Reverie series.

Accessories, hearths and traditional doors

The accessories range is extensive and covers ashpans, beams, care and fitting products, chambers, chimney cowls, coal hods and buckets, companion sets, fire grates, fireplace bars, frets, hoods, tools, fire screens and guards, log baskets and holders, and stove accessories. Accessory brands named on the site include Carron, De Vielle, Gallery Collection, Heritage, Percy Doughty and Stovax.

Hearths are offered in standard, bespoke and bespoke tiled versions. The company also sells traditional doors, including bespoke doors, original doors, door frames, door furniture and glass panels, and provides a stripping service.
