Hing Opticians

Hing Opticians: family eyecare in Shefford since 1979

Hing Opticians is an independent, family-run opticians practice based in Shefford, Bedfordshire. The practice states that it has been providing eyecare services in the town since 1979 and presents itself as a family business looking after families' eyecare. It welcomes both new patients and long-standing clients, some of whom it says it has looked after for many years.

The practice operates from 14a Clifton Road, Shefford, and notes that it has on-site parking. It describes itself as within easy reach of surrounding towns and villages including Ampthill, Flitwick, Biggleswade, Henlow, Stotfold and Clophill.

Eye examinations and on-site scanning

Eye examinations are a core service. The practice lists eye scanning among its services and refers to Swept Source OCT, an imaging technology used in the practice. It also offers a Community Urgent Eyecare Service, a pathway for urgent eye problems. In the reviews shown on its site, patients describe thorough eye tests, pre-test checks and the use of imaging to show and explain the retina.

Lenses, frames and contact lenses

Hing Opticians describes itself as a SEIKO lens specialist. Its spectacle service invites patients to choose frames by style, colour and shape to suit their needs and taste. For contact lenses, the practice says lenses are available in a variety of forms, including daily and weekly disposables. The site also includes a dedicated enquiry route for shooting lens enquiries.

Colour clinic

Among the listed services is a Colour Clinic, with its own enquiry option on the contact form. The practice presents this alongside its general optical services rather than as a separate business.

What patients describe

The website displays a rating of 4.6 based on 27 reviews, attributed to Google. The published testimonials describe friendly and patient staff, thorough examinations, help with complex prescriptions, care for nervous children and children with additional needs, frame selection advice, adjustments and occasional repairs of rimless glasses. Individual reviews also mention a monthly eyecare plan and a hearing service; these are patients' accounts rather than service descriptions published by the practice itself. One review is critical, describing a dispute over an NHS code after a prescription was taken elsewhere.
