Rummage Goods

Rummage Goods: brand-new boxed furniture sold at container prices

Rummage Goods is a small UK retailer that buys brand-new, boxed stock in bulk and resells it below typical retail prices. The company describes itself as a deal hunter: it sources new goods in batches, keeps quantities limited and passes the saving to the buyer. Every item is presented as new, unused and boxed, and the company states it does not sell used, refurbished or open-box goods.

At the time of writing, the catalogue listed 76 lines in stock, spanning from a £19.99 ab trainer to a £1,999.99 solid oak bedroom set. The range is organised by room and by product type, with living room seating forming the largest part of the offer.

What the stock covers

The catalogue is grouped into four room categories and several product types. The living room accounts for 63 lines, dining and bedroom for 4, garden and patio for 8, and home and fitness for 1. By type, the shop listed 30 corner sofas, 33 three-plus-two sofa sets, 29 recliner sofas, 4 sofa beds, 8 garden furniture lines, 2 mattresses and 2 oak bedroom and dining sets.

Featured items shown on the site included:

• Orion Rope Sofa Set in wood-effect aluminium with beige cushions, £799.99.
• Sara Electric Recliner Corner Sofa in grey, £749.99.
• Milano Electric Recliner Sofa, three-plus-two seater set in platinum grey, £649.99.
• Francesca Corner Sofa Bed in grey, £349.99.
• Berlin Electric Recliner Sofa, three-plus-two seater set in grey, £749.99.
• Henley Rattan Corner Sofa Set, nine seater with rising dining table, £549.99 against a stated £799 elsewhere.
• Zeus Electric Recliner Corner Sofa in black and grey, £849.99 against a stated £1,049 elsewhere; the site marked some colourways as sold out.
• Oxford Electric Recliner Corner Sofa in grey and black, £749.99.

Beyond seating, the description covers solid oak dining and bedroom sets, rattan garden sets, gazebos and covers. The company notes that new containers arrive regularly and that quantities per line are limited.

Pricing and delivery terms

Rummage Goods presents a single delivered price: delivery is included in the figure shown, with nothing added at checkout regardless of postcode. Large furniture travels on the company's own 45-foot lorries and is delivered kerbside, while smaller lines go by tracked post with a tracking number sent by email. The company states that lorries cover the UK mainland and that parcels go anywhere in the UK.

Deliveries are booked in with the customer in advance. Items arrive boxed and largely pre-assembled in sections. The company also states that all upholstered furniture meets UK fire safety regulations.

How the business operates

The company frames its model around opportunistic buying: it looks for new stock at low trade prices and resells it, sometimes taking a whole line when it has sold out elsewhere. It states explicitly that it does not buy from the public. Orders can be placed directly through the site or through the company's eBay store, and the site links to a Trustpilot profile for reviews.

Customer contact is handled by the owner rather than a call centre, according to the company. Messages by email and WhatsApp are answered every day from 9am to 8pm. The site also offers an email notification list for alerts about incoming containers, promotions and discounts.
