About SES Water

SES Water, water supplier for Surrey, Kent and south London

SES Water is a water company that provides drinking water to more than 750,000 people, delivering 160 million litres of clean water every day. Its supply area covers 322 square miles, stretching from Morden and South Croydon in the north to Gatwick Airport in the south, and from Cobham, Leatherhead and Dorking in the west to Edenbridge in the east.

The company states that it has been operating since 1862. Its registered office is at London Road, Redhill, Surrey.

Where the water comes from

Groundwater accounts for 85 per cent of the water SES Water supplies, while the remaining 15 per cent is extracted from the company's reservoir at Bough Beech, near Edenbridge. To move and treat this water, the company maintains over 2,000 miles of water mains and operates eight treatment works, 23 pumping stations and 31 operational service reservoirs and water towers.

Wastewater services in the supply area are not handled by SES Water: depending on where customers live, they are provided by either Thames Water or Southern Water.

Customer services and support

The company's website groups its customer-facing activity around several areas. Customers can pay bills, manage their account, payments, water meters and personal details, and report issues such as leaks or supply interruptions. It also publishes updates on repairs and planned work by area, and offers a postcode search to check the quality of drinking water at a specific home.

  • Financial support for customers who are struggling to pay their water bill.
  • Information about bills and how the money is spent.
  • A Priority Services Register for customers who need extra support.
  • Help and support for leaks, supply interruptions and bereavement.

Investment and water resources

SES Water describes investment in a resilient water future, aimed at strengthening its network to meet the challenges of climate change, population growth and growing demand. The site also provides water-saving tips for the home, garden and workplace, and publishes current reservoir levels. At the time of writing, the company stated that it was not planning to introduce a hosepipe ban and that it continued to monitor the situation.

Innovation, community and publications

The company presents innovation as a means to serve customers better, protect the environment and work more efficiently. It also refers to its contribution to local communities and publishes a range of documents, including its business plan for 2025-2030, a net zero carbon routemap and a drought plan. Separate market information is aimed at businesses and organisations looking for opportunities in water resources, demand management or leakage.

Among the services promoted on the site is HomeServe's plumbing and drainage cover, offered at 50p a month in the first year with a £30 excess for new customers who are homeowners, subject to terms and conditions.
