About Monty's Larder

Freshly cooked dog food from the team behind The Dorset Meat Company

Monty's Larder is a UK range of freshly cooked meals for dogs, created by The Dorset Meat Company. The company states that it founded The Dorset Meat Company in 2018 to supply grass-fed, free-range meat, sustainable fish, cheeses, deli items and chef-prepared meals to households across the UK, and that the butcher business was voted Britain's Best Online Butcher in 2023. Monty's Larder applies the same sourcing approach to dog food.

The meals are cooked by hand in a kitchen rather than processed, and are described as complete and balanced. They are formulated by a specialist in veterinary clinical nutrition in line with canine nutrition best practice. The food is not raw, dry or tinned; it is presented as a nutritious ready meal for dogs that is cooked and then frozen.

Recipes in the range

The catalogue lists six cooked meals, each sold from a stated starting price:

  • Heart Warming Beef Casserole, from £4.95
  • Comforting Cottage Pie, from £4.95
  • Fabulous Fish Pie, from £5.50
  • Luscious Lamb Hotpot, from £4.95
  • Succulent Chicken Supper, from £4.95
  • Hearty Chicken & Beef Stew, from £4.95

A Starter Box is offered from £33.95. It contains seven complete and balanced Beef Casserole meals, designed to introduce a dog gradually to freshly cooked food over 14 days, and requires no subscription.

Ingredients and formulation

The company states that its meals use grass-fed British beef and lamb, high-welfare poultry, sustainably sourced fish and fresh vegetables, with a 60% meat content. Fresh vegetables, oils, superfoods and herbs are added to provide vitamins and minerals. The food is described as grain free, with no fillers or additives, and as rich in essential amino and fatty acids and high in Omega 3. The ingredients are presented as untainted by growth promoters and chemicals.

Production takes place on a working farm near Stourhead in the Wiltshire countryside, where the meals are prepared by hand.

How ordering and delivery work

Customers can place a one-off order or set up regular deliveries arriving every two, four or eight weeks. There is no subscription requirement, and deliveries can be paused, skipped or cancelled. The ordering process begins with details about the dog — age, weight and activity — so that a portion size can be recommended, followed by selection of recipes and choice of one-off or recurring delivery.

Meals are delivered to the door frozen, or chilled and partially thawed, and can be placed straight in the freezer. The company advises defrosting fully before serving and using the food within five days of defrosting. The packaging is described as recyclable. Monty's Larder can also be used as a topper alongside a dog's current food.

Care team and customer feedback

Sam, who is described as having more than ten years of experience in veterinary practice, leads the Monty's Larder Care Team, which assists with choosing meals, calculating portions and switching foods. The site displayed a 5.0 rating from 9 reviews at the time it was scanned, alongside individual owner comments from Cornwall, Yorkshire, Bournemouth, London and Dorset praising the quality and appeal of the meals.
