Forker Garden Products

Forker Garden Products: horticultural peat and compost from County Armagh

Forker Garden Products is a family-run horticultural supplier based outside Portadown, in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. The business began more than seventy years ago under the name Forker Garden Supplies, when its main lines were Irish moss peat and compost and its customers were confined to Northern Ireland with a short product list. It now trades as Forker Garden Products and describes itself as "the natural choice" for compost.

Product range

The catalogue centres on growing media and soil products. The company lists multi-purpose compost, organic compost, Irish moss peat, organic farmyard manure, screened top soil and decorative bark, alongside a professional range of horticultural peat. A peat-free compost has been added to the range, described as 100% natural organic, fully sustainable and free of additives.

Formats and custom mixes

Bagged products are also supplied loose by the cubic metre or in tote bags. Beyond the standard lines, the company prepares a wide range of mixes for different plants, vegetables and trees, and its staff can blend a mix to a customer's own specification. The products are positioned for flowers and shrubs as well as for indoor and outdoor growing of fruit and vegetables.

Who it supplies

Forker Garden Products sells to garden centres, growers, landscapers and hardware stores, as well as to the general public. Growers can request specialist mixes made to their own requirements, and the site includes a separate enquiry route for retailers interested in becoming stockists.

Quality control and sourcing

The company states that stringent quality control measures are in place and rigorously followed. On sourcing, it says it uses only peat from sites that are not designated sites of scientific interest, framing this as part of an awareness of the need to preserve peat bogs.

Delivery across Ireland

Forker Garden Products delivers throughout Ireland and describes its delivery service as prompt and efficient, backed by aftersales support. The company is led by Monica Forker as Managing Director.
